Helloooooooo!!

Hi guys and girls i just came across your site by looking for some info on the P5.

Nice site btw...

I am from Toronto and i have owned 2 civics so far.
'97 Si and a '00 SiR ( which was slightly modded )

Well my SiR got stolen just on monday and i know there is no way the cops are going to find or it will probably be stripped to nothing.

Anyways...... I was looking into getting the P5 now.
I am going to test drive it next week but i was hoping you can give me some HONEST opinions on it.

Thanks

Nada

Welcome to the board

Make sure you get a 5speed....

Play around in the corners if you can, it handles great. Looks are very sharp, but that depends upon everybody's taste.

Not a P5 owner, but a regular 2001 Protege owner myself....

The only complaints that I know of is that the door lock is in the way if you want to put you arm out the window hehe, and for *some* P5 owners, when starting up the car in the mornings, the car rattles slightly until it gets warmed up.

come on P5ers, help her out

hey nada!

Welcome to the board! if ya do get the P5 the ppl here have TONNES of info bout EVERYTHING!!! i'd totally recommed it, i've had mine for about 3 months now and absolutely no regrets! but i'm warnin ya, after reading everyone's posts and seeing p5gurly's car (i think that was her name, the one @ englishtown?) you'll get urges to just run out and splurge on mods!

i actually compared the P5 to the impreza ts and accord lx and i found it had better low end accel (the ts was close, but the car was too heavy, it had quite a bit of body roll in the corners). the thing that impressed me the most about the p5 was the handling/cornering... just awesome compared to other stock cars! only problem i've noticed so far is the fold down sun-shades aren't long enough when you rotate them to the side... the sun still nails me dead on , so i leave a pair of sunglasses in my car now. other than that... nuthin! awesome car!

I have two....one for me...one for my wife....there is only ONE department in which this car is supposedly lacking, and then that is a matter of opinion....and that is power. To me its just fine, sure its not going to go out there and beat a lot of cars...but, its incredibly good lookin, and if you were to be running through the twisty roads....this little bugger will not only keep up....it will out run/perform MANY cars....its handling is so awsome. Personally I don't believe you can go wrong with a P-5.

the things I have heard people say that they don't like...

well the lock button location was already mentioned.

The fact that there is only ONE electric door lock switch in the car and that is of course at the drivers door.

The ALLEDGED arm rest on the center console....well unless you are something like 7 foot tall and have the seat back that far its useless as an arm rest..for a normal person, once you have the seat adjusted you will find that the armrest/storage compartment is between the backs of the seats and NOT beside you.

Personally I didn't care for the length of the throw of the shifter, felt too long for me...but that was easily fixed with the addition of hte B&M Short Throw shifter....which I HIGHLY recommend.

SOME people have complained about wind noise from the roof rack....which can be removed and the noise goes away....personally.....I have never heard it....guess that has something to do with the volume control of the Stereo though

That is about it....all that stuff is little minor crap....

The stock stereo really isn't that great. I love the ease of use of it and the styling of the faceplate, but in terms of performance, it just isn't as good as others I test drove. Really needs a small sub just to add the lows....

In terms of driving, the stickshift is the way to go and the fun factor is really there. Where I come from (Saskatoon , SK, Canada) there are very few Proteges and even less Pro5's. In terms of catching looks, this car does it a zillion times better than a Civic (I swear those things mate and have babies once a day, there are so many of them) or any of the big three domestics (maybe not the focus). Anywho, in terms of bang for your buck, the Pro5 is hard to beat. And it isn't ugly like the Matrix (Aztek junior).

Power is a concern, b/c it is a little heavier than other comparable cars, but my friends think it feels nice and fast. And it revs buttery smooth....mmmm.....buttery.....

There are other cars I would seriously consider for compact as well, including the civic (not the new si, i think that thing looks like someone stepped on it), sentra and se-r's, focus (svt booyah), golf, and those new corolla s's. I would like to try a Lancer (EVO, yah right) and Cooper too. So to wrap it up, do research like your doing, haggle, and have fun bagging cars on test drives. And then buy a Pro5.

In the same boat!

Well I too live in Toronto, I too used to own a SiR ('99), and I had my car broken into 5 times in less than a year. It pissed me off so G.D. much I dump the car. With all of the options to buy from... the MP5 seemed be the best choice. It's a bit of a challeng to modify when compared to the civic, but that's where the fun is. Right?!

I've had my car since Feb. It's perfect for dealing with all of the T.O. drivers, pot hole and weather. Beside it look so damn Kewl!!

Cheer's

Hi Nada

I too am new to this board but I think I can still say welcome.

I only have my P5 5-speed for a couple of weeks now and I love it. I also have a Mazda 323 5-speed and I found the P5 so much more responsive than my 323 (Duh!!). I have not really driven it hard yet as I am still breaking it in.

If you can swing it you may want to consider upgrading to heated leather seats. I did and it was wonderful for that last bit of winter we had out here in Alberta. Not cheap but I think it was worth it and it certainly makes the interior better looking IMHO.

Once you test drive the P5 that memory of the Civic will fade quickly. I think the P5 is a better looking car than the Civic anyway.

Cheers
Chris

Hey guys thanks for the info.

I went today to test drive the MP5 and i really thought it was SWEET!!

I think i want to get the white one, but the yellow with the 2 tone yellow and black/grey interior looks AMAZING!!
I think its a little to bright for me though. hehehe

But the only issue im having with the car is that the fog lights are HUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!
what's up with that?

Anyways i will have to wait another 26 days or so to see what insurance is doing about the car and hopefully i get a good chunk of $$ back. Wish me luck!!

Thanks again boys

Hi Nada,

Welcome to the Board!

I bought my P5 last month. LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

As for driving, the handling is incredible on that thing! Plus how can you resist the interior/exterior?!

Personally, I find that this car is the best one I've had so far. Sure, the power isn't the greatest, but it's a small price to pay!

One more thing.. about those fog lights... that's what makes it so pretty!! I guess being a WRC rally fan, it helps!!

GO FOR IT GIRL!! You won't regret it!

Cheers
