Home-Made CAI?

Hello,
I think I may have just "invented" a home-made Clear Air Intake...I'd like to get your thaughts on it...Here's what I did...

I picked up a Ractive Cone Filter. Its a nice one, with a strong plastic covering on it. All I had to do is connect it right after the MAF and take out the existing filter. Then, I completely removed the old air box, where the old filter sat. After that, I connected a hose the end of my new cone filter (had to play with it a bit, but I got it sealed good) and I ran that hose down twords the bumper area that most CAI's go.

I must tell you, the engine sounds AWESOME when I rev it. I love the new sucking sound!! And the engine runs a bit more "zippy". I can get up going pretty fast now.

So, is this pretty much how the full 1 piece CAI's work, or did I just get lucky??

Try it!!! Cost me 75 bucks!

Wait till I get a hold of a digital camera, I have an intake mod that is free, works wonders and is effective....most of the stuff you will need to do it you should already have....

lol
Ok, I took the snorkus/silencer out on day one (15 min after I bought the car)
leaving that nice round "nipple?" off the front of the air box
I hack sawed the face of the lower airbox off and the fender side corner as well, leaving the mount flange
it made throttle response WAY better and a wicked sound under acceleration
I made up a heat shield (still making my alloy one), tried it our and wow, it works
then I took the fog light block off plate, cut a hole in it (circular), epoxed screen mesh opver the face and cut out the fog light mounting bits in the bumper cover.
the ran "fresh air" ducting from the newly created hole, up through the passage the CAI's use to my now blocked off cold air area...
voila, cheap *** cold air set up that retains the factory filter, air temp sens locations and MAF damping abilities....works like a charm
I will post pics tomorrow.
