haha....now i like that....

personally..I don't really give a damn about automatic cars...even if it does have a 'sportmatic' whatever thingy in it.
plus it is still a slushbox, just gives you a little more control...but its still basically an auto....also doesn't it automaticlly upshift if you hold in that gear for too long...and from what i know....auto trannies kill more power than standard trannies....so you still won't get the same performance

sorry but I'm with nate0123 with this one

Manual All The Way!!!!!

yeah, atuos trannys eat power because they are not as efficient as a manual, so the performance is worse, and shifting an auto manually will not change that fact.

Manuals a a lot more fun to drive, but when you have to drive to work (and back) twice a day, every day in terrible traffic, you wish your car was an automatic half the time.

That reminds me, I knew someone who drove an automatic as if it was a stick... he would put it in first, and move it to 2nd, and eventually to OD on the automatic... I was like "what the hell are you doing? Its called automatic for a reason!"

No matter how I tried to explain it, or how many times I told him the car starts in the low gear on its own and does ALL the shifting on its own... he still would start on 1st and move the handle as the car sped up.

The killer is, that this guy was the courtesy driver for the local Mazda dealership (the guy that gives you a ride to work when you drop off your car for maintenance at the dealer). I couldn´t believe it.

Later,
LOS

I havent been real impressed by the quality of help at Mazda dealerships. I only have experience dealing with one of them, but I think they hired every reject in town.

Lets just say he really wishes his 2.0 ES Auto was a manual
He will let off right before the tranny upshifts, then hits it again when its engaging the next gear.

I've yelled at him plenty of times citing every technical and possible reason why the clutch packs and valve bodies hate him with a passion, yet he still does it.

So I'm hoping if I can get a few responses from a few people here and link him to this it'll be another wedge in keeping him from a tranny rebuild in the near future.

Be as broad and concise as you feel, or simple insults will do

Thanks,
Geoff
this is the second most stupid thing I've heard about ppl driving autos and want to be like manuals...

first time I heard was ppl with autos would put it to neutral at the stop lights and let it roll back a little to imitate the stick....

i drive stick and I find the stutter between shifting gears especially between 1st and 2nd annoying sometimes.... its just not really comfortable if u want a relaxing ride.... I can't understand why your friend would want to imitate that in an auto car....

one word for him... SAD

yea I was one of them guys who did the neutral drops...UNTIL I STOPPED!! I didn't even know I was messin up my NEW protege. So I learn to take it easy. The most I would do is power brake. Other then that, I just drive the car like an auto.

the auto stick is much better than a normal automatic

it will NOT upshift for you, no matter how high the rpms go

being able to not shift until redline makes it accelerate much much faster

and downshifting in corners is nice

if i'm in 4th gear going around a short, but tight, corner i'll tap it down 2 times to 2nd as soon as the car's weight shifts...it gets a little immediate boost and then by time i'm coming outta the corner it gets a huge boost of speed

this saves a lot of braking and allows me to go faster around corners

but it accelerates MUCH faster in "manual" mode than automatic mode...i've tested em both extensively

it also does well when you're about to turn on a road...u shift it into second...then as soon as you start to turn on the road, u move it down to first while the rpms are already decently high...it gives it a huge burst of speed and accelerates even faster than if was on straight road

uh@bs

it's not as fast as a manual, no

but it's faster than in automatic mode

when i shift into 2nd from first (at around 7k rpm), the rpms drop down only so much that 2nd is in it's power band...the car pulls forward really quickly

automatic shifts around 5200 rpms

plus i can get to over 60mph without shifting into 3rd...the automatic shifts u into 3rd before 60

Your automatic shifts ... when you're flooring it ... at 5200 RPMs?

Sounds like there is something wrong with your transmission. Most automatics shift at or close to redline when floored.

Either that or something is physically impeding the motion of your gas pedal. Possibly a bunched up floor mat?
