Help! HOLD button gone crazy on auto transmission!

Hi guys,

The HOLD button illuminaton on the dash board started flashing suddenly.... It happened when I KICKED down the auto gearbox from 3 to 2! The car wouldn't stay on 2 and changes immediately to 3! I tried pressing the HOLD button to turn the HOLD off the dash board ... but no repsonse!! A bit later the illumination would go OFF by itself... then later goes ON... it's gone crazy!

We've had two days of heavy rain, the bad roads on this island are like pools...! Could this be the reason? Water getting to "somewhere" ?

I spoke to my garage and booked the car in for a diagnose!

Any advice on this problem would be appreciated ... It's better to go to the garage with some knowledge of the problem.

Cheers

UPDATE: Had the car diagnosed and there seems to be NOTHING wrong!! Well... when I finished work and drove to the garage, the HOLD button was working as it should be... and the AUTO transmission was ok!! This is a puzzle!

I did search the forums and found many related threads... some of the replies were worrying saying the gearbox was "on the blink"... I hope not.

a blinking trans. light is an indicator of an electrical malfunction in an auto trans. solenoid body will more then likely prevent that from happening again.

Exclamation ABout OD light

Long, long time aqo... made the huge mistake of buying this automatic Mazda 626 1996: Sunroof, wing, OEM rims. The car was smooth as a bird when driving it.

Until 70 miles were reached and the damn HOLD light would start flashing and the tranny would go crazy.

I had to get out of the car, disconnect the battery, let the ECM reset and then I could drive ok as long as 60 miles or over were not reached. Thats why the guy when he sold me the car he took me to a short curvy road making it possible for me not to reach higher speeds.

Not to make you worry about your tranny. I sold my car to a mechanic and lost almost 1500 bucks on the way.

Usually from I have heard, Hold sensors are inside the tranny. Maybe it will cost 40 fifty bucks for the sensor. Takin the tranny out and makin the install AND be certain that that is the problem is another unwanted dreaded story.

RioGrande, I don't think you understood the problem! The auto was doing its thing till the HOLD button started on its OWN ... Thanks for the reply anyway

DonSVO (reminds me of Don Corleone)... thanks m8, I too guess it's electric connector got loose or wet somewhere...

WTF.... WGI (What a Great Idea ) ... When I sell this Mazda. I'll find a curvey road for test drives ... If or when it strikes back, I'll just reset the ECU... Cheers m8.

the connections are already drenched in ATF. solenoid bodies and their electrical gremlins plague all auto trans... but they aren't cheap to fix. a solenoid body alone is ~600.00 or so, and they go up from there.
