governers on protege's

I just purchased a new 2003 Protege LX, and I was wondering if it has a governer on it that limits it's top speed?

thanks,
~Nick

Because your car is Drag limited, and you do not have enough horsepower to overcome the friction forces holding you back.

100mph sounds low to me. Unless you had a big headwind and where loaded down it seems low. I have had my 2002 LX Auto to 115mph with maybe a little to go.

This topic has been beaten to death.

The only 3rd gen's with a governors are the 1.8's which are goverened at 118 mph.

I've had my 99 LX 1.6L up to 110. I heard that some small cars like Cavaliers and Sunfires have govenors that cut out at 108. I proved it wrong. 8^)

I've topped out at 110-115 in my 2001 ES and thats an auto trans. I'm sure you could do more. As for a rev limiter I'm not sure if it has one cause I can push it past 7000rpm.

ACK!

Ok, here we go.

The third gen Protege does not have a speed govenor, except for the MSP which is topped out at 130. Not sure on the 1.8 liter comment.

There is a rev limiter. Gearing will only allow you to get up to about 140 with the current rev limiter.

Most cars won't see that because they are being held back by drag.

I didn't know about the MSP governor.

As for a governor on the 1.8, the info came from Edwin (TheMAN), so I believe it. Although I've only taken my 1.8 up to about 110, other 1.8ers have reported hitting 118 when their RPM's drop, go back up and drop again.

yea, the 1.8's do have a governor, or at least the 2000 es model does.
ive gotten mine somewhere btwn 118 and 120, and the dam thing gives out... i tried it sevral times, and it is a governor.
your going... going... zoom zoom... 115, 116, 117, glance at the road, and BAM! the throttle stops responding, until you get back down to 115 or so. sux. anyone know how to take it off?

my 1999 falls on its face at 115, it will be climbing no problem hit 115, and bang the rpms drop, when the car drops under 115 it will pick up again, so the 1999 1.6 litre has a govener.

The only limiter i've found on my pro is suspension... i love going 110-120 mph, but throw a turn in there and it's all over.
