Floor lights

I tried searching for previous threads on this, but I don't even know what to call it to look for it.

My '02 P5 has a red light that shines on my feet and pedals when the headlamps/markers are on. Why in the world does the car have this feature? I can't follow the logic. I know where the three pedals are, I know my shoes and socks match.

More annoying is that the bulb is right by my steering column and shines in my eyes when I make a sharp turn with the wheel.

I think there's one on the passenger side as well, but I've only been able to make it work once or twice before. Faulty wiring perhaps, that I haven't had a moment to look into.

Not sure why, but i'm almost positive the lights (like your aftermarket moonroof) were added by a previous owner.

Yeah, i don't think mazda would put red lights on the pedals, it was probably somebody's cheap attempt at neons.

Well, they're not on the pedals, the light just shines on them, and the rest of the floorspace around my feet.

Sunroof definitely was a dealer-commissioned mod. Maybe this is too? Either way, it's a really strange mod. I can't find any amateur, tucked-away, taped-back wiring to prove if it was done by a professional or a bored owner on a Saturday morning.
