extra 10hp for 20 bucks

this sounds stupid but if anyone plays GT3 they'll know what I'm talking about.... after getting an oil change in the game your car gets an extra 10hp.

so I'm thinking it's probably the same for a real car.... maybe not as much as 10hp but significant enough since everything is much smoother after an oil change.... but I'm probably wrong cause I don't know much about cars...

Do not base the game for real life driving...in GT3 i was taking sharp turns without flipping over...just imagine if I did that in real life.

I also heard a car wash reduces drag, and will improve your top speed

(in the game, that is )

Hey, I ALWAYS find that after washing and waxing my car, that there's an extra 10 HP! That's more than a Type-R sticker!

Actually that isn't too far off from the truth. although in a car you would never notice a difference.

Back when the F-104 starfighter was the fighter plane of choice for the USAF they found that if they buffed the aluminim skin (these aircraft were never painted at the time) to a very high gloss mirror finish that they could get an extra 7 or 8 knots of airspeed out of the plane. Now 7 or 8 k nots on top of 800+ isn't too significant. Unfortunately they also found out that buffing the airplane's skin also thinned out the sheet metal after a while and made it weaker so they had to stop doing it.

In some places on jets they still want roughness however. When you have surface roughness on parts, it will induce turbulent air flow (skin friction), BUT, the air will not separate from the skin as early. If it wasn't so bad for the car paint (and look ugly) i would rough up the top leading edge of the protege.

just think, over the lifetime of your car, you gain an extra 100hp or so just from all the oil changes you gave it. and if you change your oil every 3000 miles you are doubling the amount of times you add hp.
yep the oil change/hp secret is out!!!!!!!!

the aircraft/smooth skin thing is true. planes with gloss paint are just a smidge faster than ones with the flat grey paint. then again i'm sure it really only makes a difference at .9 mach.

Okay, that does it ... I'm driving around Iceland on my Dallas to Paris trip!

I have extensive hail dents on my CRX ... I like to think I get a golfball effect from the dimples and increase my spin!
