Exhaust Systems

Alright, so i know there are a ton out there, all claiming to be the best and all. But i was wondering what people who have tried them out have to say? What are some of the best exhaust systems out there? Anyone have any experience with -back exhaust systems?

i have first hand experience with the Corksport catback on the protege and the obx catback on the protege. My opinion on both is that they used fart can muffler that are way too large for the exhaust cutout. If you had to choose between the two the corksport is the way to go.

If money were no object I'd buy a borla or magnaflow system for the protege (in that order)

looking into Borla and Magnaflow, there is no protege specific system for the protege. I found the magnaflow one and it is actually cheaper (free shipping coming to $427) than the other system i was looking into by about 50 dollars. Sold on that one.

Lots of people like the Magnaflow. But don't pay 427$ for it. You should be able to get it for 375$ or so including shipping.
And Magnaflow def. has Protege applications.

Something you should consider before you buy---are you planning on adding some kind of
FI in the near future, or staying N/A?

I got the Racing Beat cat back from a place on eBay. It is a quality system, sounds nice (quiet at idle, growl under accleration), looks good and should hold up. It has an oval outlet tip that isn't huge, but is different. Can't recall the price for sure, but I think it was around $460.

Of course, you can always wait for my upcoming Group Buy on the Thunder Catback.
I'm still working on the pricing but It'll be close to the Magnaflow, def. under $400

I'll be interested. You think there's any way you can get some sounds clips uploaded?

Can we upload soundclips directly to this site or do we need a hosting service? I've never done it before...

I have done a Borla review here on the forum its in depth,

I am also launching a website and we will be reviewing 4 more exhaust systems for the protege / MS's

My advise to you is find a borla fast because Borla stopped making them last year so they will be rising in price all over the place, we picked up two for 380, which was that painful

ive got the magnaflow system......it is sleeper.......the muffler is hidden under the car and all that sticks out is the polished 4" tip, plus its pretty quiet......my intake is louder most of the time.........but i also ordered the thunder header here and that will make it louder, plus im getting the high flow cat+midpipe from shane racing...hehehe it'll sound nice

Hey, justin. I have the magnaflow polished s.s. straight through with a polished 3" rolled slant cut tip. It sounds great. Definately not ricey, and not too loud. At idle and cruising it's barely present, but groans awesomely at wide open throttle. I went down to Checker auto and bought the muffler and tip through them. Then had Meineke weld in custom s.s. cat-back. The whole thing cost me just over $300. But I also got employee discount from checker. You can probably get it done the same way for under $400.

Meineke did it. I only bought the muffler and tip from Checker. Then I took those next door to Meineke and had them install 2 1/4" s.s. tubing. I think it's a waist of money to buy the full exhaust kit from a company. They all include a resonator, which IMO isn't necessary.
