exhaust sound

I was doing some research and found out that there is often a problem with 1999 proteges exhaust's making a resonance sound from 2300 -2500 rpm, i think this is what my car (auto.) is doing, (i thought i might have had an exhaust leak). The site i found suggests adding a damper weight and a stiffner? i was wondering if anyone had any info on this subject thanks!
