I don't know what you all paid for your cars, but I got my MP3 for $18,000 and I got Metalic tint, dealer installed MP3 strip kit and fender and door guards, and lifetime oil changes, out the door for $20,324
I already have my name on the list for the MS MP3. I am the first one on the list at the dealership. YES!!!
The price I have been quoted is $22,000

And someone mentioned why would anyone pay 28-30k for it, that price is in CANADIAN currency.. check where the poster originates first please.
And the RX-8 is not 30k CAD.

Lots of misinformation in this thread regarding the MS in Canada.
Here is what we know thus far:
1) There will be 250 MS Proteges in Canada, all will be orange
2) It will be more than the 26K CDN price of the MP3
3) It is ILLEGAL for a dealer to sell car car for more than MSRP in Canada. The dealer can add on extra's like window tint to bring the price up, but they can not charge more than what Mazda says the MSRP is if they do not add anything to the car. You can bet that most MS's sold in Canada will have the full gammet of dealer crap on them like undercoating, fabric protection, rustproofing, etc to drive the price up.
4) Many people are expecting the RX-8 to start at about 35-36K CDN. That is not that far of a cry from 30K for a freeking Protege.

MSRP for the MP3 was around 25~ (estimate), now given that the 03'MS has turbo, more HP and a lot more additions to it, it'll easily be be 27-28 at least the add all the other Canadian bullsh||t taxes and you'll easily hit 30k. And this is the estimate that the Manager of Signature Mazda has given ( which is the flagship Mazda dealership in BC).

I heard that this wasnt going to be a limited car. As in i didn't think they were going to make a certian amout.
And if they are why???!!!!
I mean all they have to do is get rid of the LX. No offence to the ones with the LX but its almost the same as the ES. If they get rid of the LX then the will only have 3 models. If that's the reason they want to make it limited. I mean the eclipse has a turbo, GS, and a RS. Some other have two but why would they make this a limited car??

If the Mazdaspeed Protege was to be a regular model, I'm sure the price would have to increase. The MP3 had an MSRP of $18,500. It wasn't that much more than the ES. Yet, it had fairly pricey upgrades. If you added those upgrades to a standard ES, the price would skyrocket well past the price of the ES.
Plus, the Mazdaspeed name on any car is supposed to be special. Imagine if Acura made tens of thousands of Integra Type R's. The Type R wouldn't be that special anymore. Everyone can have a Type R. What would make the Mazdaspeed Protege special if everyone was driving one? It's a chance for people to have a car out of the ordinary.
When you see an MP3 on the road, you say, "Wow, there's an MP3." So does everyone else (that knows about it, anyways). Build lots of them and the stigma goes away. Now, it's, "Oh, there's another MP3. I wish Mazda came out with a special car."

For those of us who aren't racing the LX is a very good compromise between the ES and the DX. It draws parts from both bins and comes out with an affordable good car that blows away comparably equiped Civics, Corrollas, etc.

I don't think MSRP will be more then $20K USD
why well look at the competion
focus SVT all the goodies - $19,220 and SVT/Cosworth put alot of work into that little car not to mention the brand new 6speed- production 7500
Sentra SE-R SpecV $18K or so will all the goodies production 10,000
Neon SRT-$!9,890 not sure just what it will have but it does have a brand new motor and a turbo that produce 205hp
Mini S- About $19K for a basic model, that includes the 6speed sport seats, sport suspension and Supercharger, add a few option's and you are still at about $21K, and thats for a BMW
Civic SI - $19,440, not alot of goodies but still in that class, cool shifter
if everyone else can do it for under $20K I dont see how Mazda can charge over $20K for their Sport Compact
the SVT, SE-R and MS3 at the prices I posted have the topend stero, sunroof, highpower motor, 2 out of 3 have an LSD, sport tuned suspension 17inch rims custom interior, limited production
really all Mazda has done to this motor is bolted on a turbo and new ECU, compression is still the same as a normal Protege
granted some other stuff have been done to the car the would up the price but anything over $20K USD just seems a little high to me. Say they did make MSRP $22K then that puts it very close to the RSX Type-S and WRX, both of which offer more power, and for the WRX, AWD too
I still think Mazda should make 5000 MazdaSpeed's or more, 2000 just is not fair
