Unhappy Engine missing 2000 LX (1.8L)

2000 Protege LX touring edition (candian)
1.8L

I own a 2000 Protege and am having trouble with the engine missing or hesitating when travelling at highway speeds (100K) on wet or snowy roads. I have 97,000 km on the car and the trouble started at about 40,000 KM. I know of at least two other Protege 2000 owner who have the identical problem and it also seemed to start at about 40,000 km.

Can anyone offer any advise on this problem?
Thanks

So you pull over, pop the hood, and it's just GONE?!? That's freaky!

Get at the ignition system. I would change the plugs and wires if you haven't already - it's the right place to start.

It's probably not the rainy or snowy roads, rather the humid conditions (which would be present when the roads are wet or snowy! ). Ignition troubles usually crop up more when it's humid.

Keep us updated.

I have the exact same problem

and ye...it did start at about 40,000KM

I have about 65,000KM on it now.

I have a '99 LX Touring Edition (1.8L) (its in my sig)

I'll have to check the spark plugs and all. I was thinking about that ignition coil problem too, that some pros had.
but my pro didn't fall under the right vin range, and my dealer said there was nothing wrong with the ignition coils.

Mine doesn't only hesitate at highway speeds tho. mine normally hesitates all the time. (well not really.....some days it doesn't hesitate at all...i gotta check the conditions more)

hmmm it might actually be the humidity thing that hihoslva mentioned.

anyway if anyone has more info on this.....please do tell...it is appreciated

Have you relplaced your spark plugs and wires? Also check and see if your ignition coils are affected by the recall.
