egr valve on backorder

ok my fauly egr valve on my 02 protege es is still waiting to be replaced. my warranty ended the other day but ended after they diagnosed the problem and ordered the part and wrote up the paperwork. they say they'll still fix it for free. But, its been over 2 weeks since the part was ordered. they have 2 other egr valves on backorder too.....no promise dates yet. are they making them from scratch in japan or something? just thinkin almost 3 weeks is quite a while. my car's runnin rough so i'm tryin not to drive it.

do they know what the problem is?? I've often times been able to repair an EGR rather than buy a whole new unit. where is your car now?

they didnt tell me exactly what the problem is but said i needed a new egr valve. but it sure is taking forever. they had kept the car for a week and gave me a loaner then decided it was ok to drive...so i have the car back but the idle is really bad/rough. almost stalls sometimes.

i wouldn't drive a car with a faulty EGR especially if its hot where you live right now...

EGR recirculates exhaust gas back into the intake track to stunt combustion and cool off cylinder temps. If this is not working properly you risk destroying your motor. Be thankful you dont have a MSP with a faulty EGR or you wouldn't have made it nearly this long.

weather has certainly cooled off now. . .. and the dealer said to drive it........

i just don't get why it takes so long to get the part in stock.
