Here's why the WRX was going toe-to-toe with your MSP. I own an MSP myself and have battled 2 WRX's(Stock), one of them beat me by a hair, and the other I beat by a fender (but that's still close!). You see, the WRX stock gear ratio is short and it's turbo doesn't spool fast enough on the straight-away. It was built to rally. Now autocross it handles pretty well cause of the all wheel drive and suspension set up but it still lags on the turns unless your drift is good. But lag is eliminated if the WRX has Limited-Slip-Differential or LSD. Besides turbo, that's where the MSP shines. It's LSD is what gives you an edge. Why? Because that is more HP per wheel to the ground at the "same time." Stock WRX's (Believe it or not) do not have this, they have "all-wheel" drive which is different from "four-wheel" drive, no LSD. Basically in "all-wheel" drive the engine puts power to the wheel that needs it the most via an ACD system. It's not exactly putting all power to the wheels. Especially when it does any turning of any kind. But then again Mazdaboy42 could be right about the driver. There really is a world where people have nice cars but don't know the first thing about driving when they get behind the wheel. I admit when I was young I didn't have a clue, but now I learn from other people's mistakes and I practice perfection in my driving skill. I feel my MSP exploits my skill as a driver that opens doors to new boundaries.
Um, no. A WRX is capable of 0-60 in under 6 seconds. An MSP is a full second slower. Any way you slice it, the WRX can smoke an MSP. Don't even get me started on quarter mile times. Sazabi obviously doesn't understand how AWD works for ****. The guy in the WRX can drop the clutch at 5000 RPMs because ALL of his wheels are powered. An MSP, with only FWD can't. This allows the guy in the WRX to pre-spool his turbo.

It is more likely that the guys you were racing had automatics, or simply weren't racing you. I "beat" all kinds of cars, from Porche 911s to BMW M3s. It doesn't mean that they are trying.

Furthermore, ZZOOOMM, the WRX can be had for less than $23,000 - only an idiot would pay full sticker price. As MSP's were/are in such limited supply, you payed full sticker (or more).

I agree that WRXs are ugly, otherwise I probably would have bought one. Unfortunately, even the next generation WRX is pretty ugly.

Just giving you MSP guys a reality check.

correct, the WRX had a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds, just as fast as the camaro/S2000, and who cares if it looks ugly? subaru probably did that so ppl that only buy cars for looks wouldn't buy theres so they could get SERIOUS drivers to represent and drive their products

Not quite. The WRX has a 0-60 time closer to 5.7 seconds. I don't know where you're getting your 0-60 times, but even though you are right about Camaros, the honda S-2000 pulls 0-60 in around 6.1 seconds.

There are plenty of people who aren't SERIOUS drivers that own and drive WRXs. Looks aren't the only consideration to make when buying a car, and it was far from my only consideration. It didn't hurt that the p5 cost about 6K less, gets better gas mileage, doesn't require premium fuel, can be had with a leather interior, and has (imho) a nicer interior as well as exterior. Furthermore, lots of people care about the way the car looks, including Subaru. That's why they are changing the appearance next year. In spite of all the press the WRX gets, you can still buy one for $3000 off sticker and there are plenty available.

Subaru was trying to stand out from the crowd and they realized (and admitted) that they screwed up.

I hope that chick you're mentioning about is not me..... coz' I am not the one who crashes the MSP. I didn't know whoever wrecked that MSP is a lady driver, but please RESPECT LADY DRIVER.... you should see what SPICYMSP did in the other protege forum with her MSP down in California. she take it to the track and I bet she has more knowledge of cars than some of your morons do.

accidents do happen, please don't count you male drivers as driving saints.

Wow, I did say the other guy beat me and I did describe exactly how AWD works. I wouldn't of offered an explanation if only I knew how pist people get. I don't know ****? I don't race quarter mile and I'm not stupid to challenge a WRX drag style. Let me enlighten, where I live, we "battle". We push ourselves to a point of no return on the most dangerous of downhill mountain passes. Skill means everything to us, we could care less how powerful your car is or how much NOS someone is shooting. It's not going to get you around hairpins so tight you would of thought your car folded in half. Yeah, I'm not gonna argue with you about your stats for 0-60 on different cars. I could pick up 10 different magazines and books that will tell me what a car can do six different ways to sunday giving it to me in fraction of seconds results. It also doesn't mean a car is invincible in every type of race there is. However, the guy I beat was using automatic (good call) and thanks for the insight about pre-spool but I've driven many turbo equiped cars long enough to know that. Believe me, having a WRX up your rear is not the easiest to deal with. I'm just glad that I don't have to do it again. WRX's aren't pretty cars, they're just intimidating and scary.

Oh yah, and that ACD system I described, I found out it's only available on automatic WRX's cause it's computer controlled. Yes, it's AWD but it isn't as powerful as the manual version which does plant all four tires to the road. OK?

...back to thread

A busted MSP? Now she can go buy an MPS Mazda6 when they're released.... then test out it's awesome crumple zones. Let's see what happens when a female has 275+ HP in the palm of her hands....Hmmmm for some reason that doesn't sound right.

You "Battle" by "pushing yourselves to the point of no return" on mountain passes? That sounds really brilliant. Looks like we can count on your MSP getting wrecked too....
