The Demise Of A Mazdaspeed

So in talking to my Mom this morning, she tells me the following:

"You know that new little sparkly orange car with the big wing?"

"The Mazda one that looks like mine?" I ask.

"Yeah, but it wasn't a wagon and had different wheels. I saw it yesterday parked up to the front wheels into a Sunfire."

My Mom's not too "car-literate" so I made sure it was a Mazdaspeed and my Dad later verified this fact. Apparently the Mazdaspeed was racing along, and rear-ended a Sunfire. It had sufficient speed to bury itself up to the wheels and set of the air bags.

For such a new car, it's a shame to have all of that intercooler and turbo now about an inch thick embedded into the block! ;)

I wasn't a witness to the accident, so I can't say for sure what happened, but my guess is that from the situation that was described to me, a left turn lane was backed up out of the lane itself, and the MSP was noving fast up the left hand lane. As he approached the turning lane that was backed up to the point that the left-hand lane wasn't moving, he simply slammed into the rear of the last car.

That's all I could gather, but all in all my Mom liked the car. She called it "sporty" and "bright." I now have a new graduation present in mind! ;)

Alco,

It happened on Nose Hill Dr. Northbound, on the turnoff to Crowfoot Way. (First left north of Crowchild.)

But ya, jsut cause they have a car that handles good, they think they can break the laws of physics...

alcoholiday February-18th-2003 11:04 AM

yeah, all the handling in the world won't help you when you're not watching the road.

aside from the guy that got tapped by the ricer, every incident of a wrecked mazdaspeed has been caused by the driver being a jack-off.

midnightblue97 February-18th-2003 02:52 PM

Thats horrible news. At the very least he could have smashed into a tasteful car and not a sunflower

protege563028 February-18th-2003 04:16 PM

If you going to wreck a MSP. At least get rear-ended so the motor is salvagable.:crying:

Vicocola February-18th-2003 07:45 PM

not trying to be mean or anything but that's good news for the rest of the msp owners who actually try to TAKE GOOD CARE of their cars.... less msp out on the street... make us more unique... those idiots dont deserve to drive one anyways...

Hong Kong Fever February-18th-2003 08:54 PM

I came home from San Diego yesterday and was approched by a WRX and it was go time. If I followed him he could not get away. If he followed me that is just what he did, Saw my tail lights getting smaller. He could not hang with me. it was so nice because I just installed a new plate cover that says'"WHEN IN DOUBT, CRANK UP THE BOOST." I paid 20,900 he paid 25,850 I made out. And most of all my headlights are not UGLY.

Wow that guy must one of the world's worst drivers, cause a stock wrx with a decent driver would eat a stock msp up.

I can explain....

Here's why the WRX was going toe-to-toe with your MSP. I own an MSP myself and have battled 2 WRX's(Stock), one of them beat me by a hair, and the other I beat by a fender (but that's still close!). You see, the WRX stock gear ratio is short and it's turbo doesn't spool fast enough on the straight-away. It was built to rally. Now autocross it handles pretty well cause of the all wheel drive and suspension set up but it still lags on the turns unless your drift is good. But lag is eliminated if the WRX has Limited-Slip-Differential or LSD. Besides turbo, that's where the MSP shines. It's LSD is what gives you an edge. Why? Because that is more HP per wheel to the ground at the "same time." Stock WRX's (Believe it or not) do not have this, they have "all-wheel" drive which is different from "four-wheel" drive, no LSD. Basically in "all-wheel" drive the engine puts power to the wheel that needs it the most via an ACD system. It's not exactly putting all power to the wheels. Especially when it does any turning of any kind. But then again Mazdaboy42 could be right about the driver. There really is a world where people have nice cars but don't know the first thing about driving when they get behind the wheel. I admit when I was young I didn't have a clue, but now I learn from other people's mistakes and I practice perfection in my driving skill. I feel my MSP exploits my skill as a driver that opens doors to new boundaries.

four-wheel drive does not mean you have LSD. It means the front and rear differentials are locked together. many 4wd systems have open differentials
