Question Cost for scheduled checkup?

How much do you all pay for your scheduled maintenance checkups on your P5s? I have to get an oil change, and I was due for my 16k checkup like 2k ago! I'm just reallllly po, and wanted to make sure I can afford it. Help!

pro5girlie, unless you're on a lease or something where all factory maintenance is required, rather than doing the full 15k mile service at the dealer, you can just get an oil change and buy a new air filter at an auto parts store (it really does just drop in).. that is unless you think something is wrong with your car.

15k maintenance from what I remember cost $95 at Ridgefield Mazda in Connecticut (please note I didn't do this service as it was nothing other than oil change, tire rotation, and "inspection" of brakes/tires/etc.)

If it's any more than $150 you're getting ripped off, though

I remember my air filter being pretty dirty at 15k, you'll feel a slight improvement in performance just by changing it for a new one (it's just a panel filter)

Any chance you can make it to the Protege Meet tomorrow (Saturday) in Kent, CT? <off topic but worth a try> You wouldn't have to bring anything.. we need more people !

Local Mazda dealer has three basic service options:

1) $24.95*

This Service Includes:

Replace Oil & Filter
Check all fluid levels
Lubricate Locks and Hinges

*All taxed, shop supplies & environmental fees are extra.

2) $49.95*

Replace engine oil and filter (Quaker State)
Replace oil filter (OEM filter)
Clean & lubricate antenna mast
Lubricate locks & hinges
Inspect washer fluid
Inspect rear washer system (if applicable)
Inspect tension on all drive belts
Inspect tire inflation & wear
Rotate tires (if necessary)
Inspect function of all lights
Check parking brake operation
Inspect automatic transmission fluid level
Inspect Brake & clutch fluid level
Inspect power steering fluid level
Inspect engine coolant level & strength
Front & rear brake inspection
Visual check for oil leaks
Check battery terminals
Check operation of all lights (most bulb and wiper blade replacement at no charge)
Free shuttle service
Factory trained Mazda technicians
Factory authorized warranty repair depot
Free wash & vacuum (when time permits)

* All taxes, shop supplies & environment fees are extra. Mazda vehicles only.

3) $99.95*

This Service includes all services of #2 plus these additional items:

Exterior trim & paint
Interior trim
Glass & mirrors
Horn & emergency flashers
Air conditioning (if equipped) running temp
Drive belts
Drive belts tension & wear (additional cost for adjustment)
Pressure test cooling system for leaks
Visual check radiator condition
Check charging system
Inspect suspension & steering linkage
Inspect exhaust system
* All taxes, shop supplies and environmental fees are extra. Mazda vehicles only.

Bear in mind this is all CDN funds, so that is about $16USD, $32USD and $64USD.

Heh, I just noticed that option #2 is done by "factory trained" technicians. I wonder if they get technicians that are specifically NOT factory trained to perform #1???

One more thing, there used to be only ONE basic service, and that was #2, but it cost $29.95. They introduced these new levels after they moved into a new location. I guess they have to pay for that somehow...

The manual has 3 scheduals. For oil changes they say:

The first says 6months/7500 miles and is for normal conditions.

The seconds says 4months/5000 miles and is for extreme conditions and canada.

The third is called Chille and it says 6months/6000miles.

I was told by my dealer to follow chille but I think I am gonna go with the second one.

When I took my car in for an oil change at around 15,000 miles (I know I'm lazy) the dealership tried to sell me a $250 service. I don't remember what all was on it but it was a rip. Alot of "inspection", or "preventitive maintenence" (did I spell that right? Oh, well). I should do the oil myself, but like I said I'm lazy. I am, however, not too lazy to change my air filter and lube my doors myself (I think that was like $50 of the $250). And If you're too lazy to rotate your own tires just take it to a Discount Tire and have it done for $10.
Bottom line- I wouldn't do it. Now, the 30,000 has some interesting items on it and that I would recomend.

Also, I too am changing oil every 3,000 miles. I checked at 4,000 once and... well it was ready for a change. Of course the dealership recomends 3,000 but I had always changed at 5,000 on my previous cars. Curious.

That's a good deal... wish my dealer had that... they offered basically the same thing as the #3 option, but only it was $479.99... great deal... NOT.
