Folks i need some help. I did a search AND read the FAQ. Already don't tell me that OK. But if there's a thread I missed and you can point me there, super.

I installed an Injen and a Racing Beat exhaust on Monday. Car's running great but when I shut it off I'm getting this loud "Clicking" noise. It clicks about every 30 seconds and it continues for several minutes and then stops by itself.

What the hell is it? What did I do wrong here? I'm assuming I goofed somewhere cause it wasn't doing this before.

All help appreciated

 

its most likely just the metal cooling down as it gets very hot it expands and the clicking noise is the metal contracting as it cools down most cars do that but arent that loud maybe the new muffler you put on is bigger and makes more noise i also think the catalytic converter makes the same noise. hope this helps you out.

 

yup it's the metal or what you could be hearing is the oil dripping after your car is turned off

 

I would say it was the metal and probably not the CONDENSATION falling under your car. If you are dripping oil then you have more serious problems to worry about.

 

Hmmm...I appreciate the ideas, but this sounds a lot more regular than a contraction of metal would be? It happens with consitency, it's not like a crack, then two or three, then nothing, then another...

It's Crack...crack...crack... Sound like something trying to start or tunrover. What about the solenoid purge valve that you move when installing a CAI?? But if that's the case why doesn't everyone report this noise??

 

It's the element inside the cat that's are making the sound. It's normal, and there's nothing to worry about.

Must be your first stainless exhaust huh?
True Stainless steel exhaust's make that noise when cooling down. I have the exact RB cat back exhaust and it does the exact same thing. It's normal.

 

Man...I've asked a few people off the baord about this. Some of whom have ss exhausts and their cars don't do this?? It is my first SS exhuast and I'm not arguing with you that it might be normal, but I guess that's my whole point. If it is normal, cool, but why does it happen? If it's not normal then of course I gotta figure it our and fix it.

Why does the RB exhaust do this? What's causing the sound?

 

yes if you were dripping oil then that would be a worse problem. what i meant was the oil dripping into the pan again which some friend's dad told me. but the metal sounds like a better reason.
