DX. EX, LX, all of those usually determines what kind of electricals you have inside you car (power windows, locks, alarm, "sterio?", and ABS)
DX means you have a basic *** car, like mine (no ABS; pwr windows, locks or alarm)
EX means you have a few accessories
LX means you have quite a bit of accessories
i wouldn't know much about which one means what when it comes to a motor, if anything they all have the same motor (unless you wanted a different motor in there before you baught the car)

agreed. You only need that stuff if you are running a turbo or something to monitor the health and tuning of the setup.
I don't know where the EX comes from, but for us sedans it is DX base model, LX in between DX and ES, which is top of the line. There should be lettering on the side of the car just behind the front wheels to identify your trimline.
1. DX base model, 1.6L
2. LX all the options of the ES's standard equipment
3. ES all options standard, plus some more options, 1.8L
This is applicable for the 99s or 00s. 01+ changed 1.8L to 2.0L

I am almost positive that all Protege trim levels would share the same ISO-standard OBD port. OBD (On Board Diagnostic) items include things such as engine operating parameters, fuel injection, emissions sensors, cam and crank position sensors, etc. The point of OBD is to commonize and standardize powertrain faults industry wide, to aid mechanics in diagnosing and repairing a large variety of vehicles. Therefore, I would assume that a P0171 code means Fuel System Lean in a Ford, Dodge, Mazda, whatever. Thus, for any GIVEN MODEL YEAR the Apexi should work the same in a number of vehicles. But, remember too that OBD compliance varies by vehicle model year, and manufacturer. For example, older vehicles are only OBD1 compliant. Newer vehicles are OBD2 compliant. I know that my 2003 Mazda is OBD2 compliant, because it has a rear O2 sensor.

They only have the old gtechs on ebay. IE the crappy ones that were terrebly inaccurate. The ss is going for $200 and the rr for $300 you can get them new from the web site for that much. Dam ebay doesnt even have deales anymore. Too many buyers not enough sellers.
You can get the gtimer for a resonable price still.
What Im looking for is a OBDII reader that pluges into a laptop so I can get crazy info out of it. Thats all standarized right?
