Ca. Extended Warranty For P5
Ca. Extended Warranty For P5
I picked up our new P5 a couple days ago and was offered an extended warranty. In essence the Western General "Platinum" warranty covers the vehicle for a total of 7 years or 100,00 miles, at a cost of $1595.00. This coverage is a "wrap around" of the Mazda warranty. In other words, not extending the mfg. warranty. I tried to get information re: the purchase on the web. but it looks like legislation has "killed" online sales of these warranties (in Ca.). Has anyone any recomendations? Anyone used this type warranty?
The whole presentation sounds like double talk. You'd think the extended warranty would be less expensive and start where the mfg. warranty leaves off
However there's a three year (or 50,000 mile) period of double coverage

In Canada we have a 7 year or 160000 kms Comprehensive warranty that is for 4 additional years of coverage after the initial warranty is done. Is this the same thing as you were offered? cost for a Canadian warranty is $1595.
It sounds like essentially the same warranty. I thought the cost to be excessive, but I guess with labor being $85.00 hr. it can add up fast! They gave me 'till 12000 miles to think it over.
They said "as long as it's purchased before the car accumulates 12000 miles" I think I'll wait 10 or 11 months and see if I have any problems. I know I bought it with my MR2 and it paid for itself. Of course I kept the car for 15 years and 345,000 miles.
I decided to go for the extended warranty from my dealer, which increases the factory warranty (including roadside assistance) from 3yrs/36,000 miles to 7yrs/100,000 miles. The cost was about $1,200 and I decided to have it tacked on to the purchase price of the car so I could finance it at 0%.
A major reason I decided to go for it (besides the peace of mind) was because I can decline the extended warranty at any time before the 7 years expires to receive a prorated refund. So, if I decide to sell the car in four years when it's paid off, I'll get $900 back!
