Welcome to the board! The sport shift is great for keeping the engine up in the rev range so you don't have to wait for the auto-slush lag for when you need the performance. I'm always in M on the backroads and highway on/off ramps- otherwise, A/T for my commute. Left leg's just gotten too damn lazy. Matter of fact... I think my whole body's gotten too lazy.

Just Bought a new P5 too!
Hi! I've just joined this forum, after coming home an hour ago with my new 2003 Potege5. It's basically the Yellow brochure car, with the slap-stick auto, leather, moonroof, CD changer, etc...
I drove a few other things:
Nissan SE-R VSpec. It was quik, but had vague steering in the center and kinda bland looking rear end.
Altima 3.5SE. My reason for even going to the lot, but I was disappointed-cheesy dash, massive torque steer. And tho it did most things well it was...just well, not exciting.
Mazda 6. I "almost" bought it. I loved the same slap tranny, it had the best sounding stereo, nice and big interior and trunk. But it was a base model in the same Speed Yellow, which didn't look quite right to my eyes with hubcaps and spoilers.
So... I came back to the Protege5. I'd like a little kick in the pants as far as 0-60 goes (I know-but in LA an automatic is a God-send), but it's nimble and just fun to drive! I'm hoping to learn more about the car, it's quirks, and especially
some ideas on how to get more out of the motor and the order and probable costs of doing them. Sorry I'm rambling, but I really dig the car, and I'm looking forward to learning and contributing what I learn in my adventures... Thanks!
