Bosal Exhaust Thoughts / Opinions Needed

I'm thinking of purchasing the Bosal exhaust system for my MP5, but I want to hear some of your thoughts / feelings on it first. The other alternative is to go to the Mazda factory Sport Exhaust, which is just a remake of the Racing Beat model offered on the MP3, which will bolt onto the P5 with no problem. (Allegedly...)

So, just some input as to advantages, disadvantages, etc would all be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Pro: Completely polished stainless steel from cat-back.

Con: Muffler looks like a mini trash can

FYI there are quite a few other systems out/coming out...just in case you didnt already know.

Myself & a bunch of other people I've sold the system to love it. Then there are 2 or 3 people that think it looks like a coffee can (not the view of everyone I think it sounds good, performs good, & looks much better than most I've seen out there. It is a "trash can" shaped muffler for the simple reason that its a straight through design instead of a chamber idea (like Flowmaster) which is why it doesnt have that oval shape. I think Bosal did a good job though. Greddy has been saying they'll be doing a system but based on other systems theyve "been working on" it could be a couple of years!! I believe Skunk has a cat back out, as does Borla & some Canadian company. ANd of courese, the expensive Mazda sport muffler. Racing Beat is supposed to have a cat back out sometime. But for now, I think Bosal is the best on the market. E-mail me for information on it.

The MP3 exhaust features a Racing Beat designed muffler section only, not complete cat back. Also the muffler section does not fit the Protege 5 since it is almost 4 inches shorter than the sedan.

Re: More options...

I have no doubt that the Racing Beat cat back exhaust will be an excellent product, but if you read their website, they're only accepting pre-orders right now. The exhaust system isn't complete yet, and there isn't a specific date it's supposed to available.

Hey Eric...Do all protege's have Stainless steel piping from the factory? Just wondering because my MP3 has Stainless steel piping. Did Mazda make this or racing beat?

took a couple pics.. its dark in my garage so excuse the very crappy pictures.. exhaust looks pretty good in real life. (I used to have a 4" tip, uh.. straight thru loud as can be exhaust).. its very quiet compared to that but its not broken in yet (only been on since earlier this morning)..

it is bolt on as long as you use all the pieces in the kit, I decided to keep cat. convertor because emissions is coming up in under a year and I'll just go straight pipe included with my Federal version after that point in time.. the flange needed a little trimmimg since I was keeping the cat for now.. if you use the whole kit no mods are needed its bolt on.

All Protégés do have stainless steel exhausts, just not polished stainless. Remember, the MP3 only has a different rear muffler section than the other Protégés, the rest of the exhaust is the same. The tip in the picture is quite a bit longer than the one that came stock with my Bosal exhaust, did you add that separately?

The exhaust was crooked when I took those pics. Its not like that anymore. This is the Protege5 version. it has a shorter tip. I assume the other posted was the Sedan since its got a longer tip. And the bosal exhaust is the Chameleon muffler. YOu can buy new tips & switch them.

suprisingly enough my bosal system came with that long tip.. I guess maybe since you got one of the first bosal systems produced for the protege (when it first came out, that is) they made the tip longer as a revisionary thing figuring alot of people buying the system have an mp3 and *need* that longer tip for clearing the rear bumper skirt?

:shrugs: oh well, all the better for when I find the rear bumper skirt of my dreams

Mitch,
In the Dyno graph for the bosal. I cannot read the super small writing on the side, so I can't tell which line means what. Can you get a larger picture of the dyno graph or tell us what it says for each color line?
