Anyone else having problems with stock tires???

The only problems I have really had is when accellerating hard from a full stop into a 90 degree turn. Just the difference turn distance from the inside to outside tire is enough to spin them, however, I just need to ease up. I only have 2700 miles on my PR5. I also have anti-lock brakes and they have kicked in once when the pavement was wet after it hadnt rained in a long time and had all that oil on it. I think the tires are very good in dry and average to slightly better than average in wet. Like many people have stated, I will probably try something else when these wear out.

Maybe I missed something PROGURL, but did you ever say what kind of tires you have? For that matter what kind of trans do you have?

I have a 2001 ES 5-speed with the dunlop Sport 5000's. While its true what others have said about all-seasons being a compromise, I believe the Dunlops to be a good compromise- certainly one of the best all-season tire series available. My father actually bought a set for his Passat V6 (albeit in a larger and assymetrical model).

As said previously, these tires offer good dry road performance, and because they are all season they will operate well in cold weather. The real weakness of this tire (and ALL all season tires) is its wet performance. Any decent Summer tire will give you FAR better wet performance and better dry performance too. Problem is- if you live someplace where it gets cold (like Michigan) the tire will get hard- even brittle- when the temp drops.

If you live someplace like Florida, where it never gets VERY cold and rains EVERYday, go with Summer tires. Otherwise, settle for compromised wet performance OR get used to the idea of switching your wheels twice a year.

I'm satisfied with the Dunlops but I' prefer a dedicated summer tire. The 2000 ES came with summer tires- nice. But I agree with Mazda's decision to stick with a premium all-season. For most people it's better. I plan on replacing the 5000's with Pilots for summer and running the dunlops in winter. Off topic- but has anyone noticed how few tires there are in this size!?

I'll also vouch that the stock tires for the P5 aren't that great. In the two months that I've had mine, I can't tell you how many times they've slipped on medium acceleration while going over paint stripes at an intersection, or while turning into traffic from a parking lot. It's starting to get on the annoying side. I have a 5 speed and live in hot AZ-- no rain.

Actually, I also have a 96 Neon with Yoko AVID H4's on them and those tires are way better (and cheaper). But my plan is to put some Kumho Ecsta 712s on once these wear off. That is, unless Yokohama comes out with a high performance tire in our size.

my stock tires were toyo's...but actually I cheaped out and got some futuras when i needed a change and they seem to grip WAY better in the rain...Im impressesd especially for only 35 a tire on brand new tires!

If you run the Dulop 5000's try setting pressure to 30psi in the front and 27 in the rear. It made a difference, and my tires still wore well to the very end. If you want a high traction tire, you can't beat the Toyo Proxe T1-S in a DOT tire.

Before buying my wife's P5 I had actually bought Dunlop 5000s for my car to replace the stock Michelin crap rubber that comes on Civics ( or at least did in 1997). Michelin should be sued for calling those 'all season', based on zero traction in snow (I exaggerate only slightly). Check some review sites on the web, like this site for example, and you will find that the Dunlops get favourable ratings, particularly for traction in snow compared to other performace all-season tires (important to me).

All I have to say is that the stock Dunlop's suck, I have only 17000 km on my car and already the front tires are skreeching in the front taking a turn at 30kph and I can't rotate them cause my back driver side tire has a busted steel belt and would get even worse if I put all the weight on it in the front, my dealer told me to call Dunlop so they can send me somewhere to get new one but I can't find the number anywhere in the manual like he told me, so i'm just gonna wait a little long to ware them out, and put on the winter tires, and in the spring i'm going to put on some Bridgestone SO2's(stock tire for the Porsche 911 and Honda S2000), and from what i've read and heard, it's a really good tire.

If you can't even figure out how to get a defective tire replaced under warranty... well what can I say...
