Adaptive Transmission? Overdrive? MP5 Auto 2002

I've been surfing around here for a bit and read a few things about "Adaptive" Transmission. I've learned a little about it but am hoping someone can give me a quick run down on what exactly it is.

I came here tonigth because I have an appointment in the morning for a 40000km service and want them to have a check of the transmission as well. I have found that when turning up my street from a full stop the engine revs quite high. Probably becuase there is a grade though it isn't very much of an incline. It shifts once I get to the level part of my street. AFter reading about "adaptive" trannies I am wondering if it is because the car (bought it in Dec 2003) came from a city with many hills. That perhaps the car treats small inclines as steep grades becuase that is what it is used to.

Like I said I have no idea of what "adaptive" trannies are so forgive me if this sounds foolish.

Also, I noticed yesterday that the O/D button doesn't work. Press the button and nothing. I did a search on this here and someone mentioned a controller switch. What is that?

Thanks everyone. My appointment is in 5 hours and it is the middle of the night so I don't reckon I'll get any responses but I'd appreciate any info after the fact as well.

Adaptive, there are two types / versions I have heard of but I don't know the correct names nore if they work as specifided to me

One is a smart CPU that addapts to how the users driving habits are, which will adaptivly change how long to hold each gear,

Two, is one that adapts to environment conditions, failures, etc, working harmoneous to other car systems engine, intake, fuel grade.

the second one I know nothing about and it was purely hear say.

But the first type I beleive is actually true, if anyone notices their car driving different after say for example another drive using it. Not sure which cars use such a technology.

Does mazda, I doubt it. I am sure Ford has done nothing like this and they are already in bed together. Look to Lexus or higher end cars to include such features.

But hey I could be dead wrong,

anyone else got any info?

Oops. I should have been more specific. I do have over drive. But the button to turn it off doesn't work.

Turns out it does work though...sort of. It won't turn off when in D but it will in Park. Turns out just a loose wire connecting the button.

The guarantee on the car is great. THe previous owner had purchased the 7 year/160km plan. I'm good till July 2008!

Finally getting some nice days so I can take her out for a good rip.
Up to the beaches perhaps. The only good drive it got was the day I bought it when I returned to the Island from New Brunswick.
Crappy rainy and snowy day so I couldn't give it a proper go.
Looking forward to taking the snows off too and the summers on.
Should make a big difference!
