Wait a sec, I thought you were talking about me when you said one was spoken for. Do you have a deposit there too? Nucar Mazda? I put my deposit in Monday on a Spicy Orange one. Who'd you talk to?

You're P5 sounds pretty nice. Got any pics? What are you going to do with it when you get your Mazdaspeed?

MSRP

What is the price on these things? My Local dealer in Gainesville isn't getting any
The one in Jacksonville is supposed to and I'm sure Orlando should too. But I was wondering about the price.
This is what they told me, Apparently it costs a dealer $20K to sign up to be a "MAZDASPEED dealer". They said MSRP is like $21K, but most dealers will jack the price $2k or $3k to cover the MAZDASPEED program costs. Is there any truth to this? $24K is ALOT to pay for a Protege, espcially when you can get an '02 ES for $15K.

Later,

Seriously, for $24k you can get a WRX. I don't even know why anyone would buy a Protege for that much!

$20,500 is what I'm paying. Or maybe a few bucks less, but certainly not more.

$20,500 isn't bad.
In Autocross, it'll probably be a D-Stock car, with Integra Type R, and Subaru WRX, BMW 6-cyl, Cooper S. Which are all more expensive cars.

Hmmmmm, I might have to look into this. Much more fun to drive than my '00 H-stocker

I am VERY interested to see MSP run against these cars, especially the Cooper S and ITR.

Mini Coopers (S and normal) has been owning their respective stock classes (DS and HS) in our area (DC region).

I hope any future owners of the MSP in our area would NOT waste such a wonderful autox car, and end up only bringing it out for silly car shows

I haven't seen any word of what class it will be in, but since the Mini S is going to D-stock (with more than its advertised horsepower, I might add) you could be right. I plan on autocrossing mine ASAP .

I wouldn't be incredibly surprised if it started in G-stock then moved up to D-stock after the first year (but since it has an LSD, it's probably unlikely.)

no way it'll start in GS

since that's what the MP3 is in right now.... unless they drop the MP3 to HS, which will not happen

The only way to get a Mini S under $20k is to order it. You can walk in to most Mini dealers now and buy an S, but it'll be optioned up to $23-24k. To buy an S comparable to an MS Protege would cost more than $20,500.
