Ditto.

Been up to 130-ish before and everything was fine. The ride gets very smooth around 110 mph

I dont know what you are doing to make it top out so low. I have my roof rack on for a while too and didn't make much difference. maybe 1 mph. And as everyone has stated, it has no govenor only a fuel cut, and if your N/A you probably cant make it there in 5 th anyways.

I also got mine to about 122mph on flat ground... It was still accelerating fine, but I had to slow down because I ran out of road... and mine is just a 1.6L 5speed... and the only "mod" I have done was remove the second cat. I think it would have gone all the way to 130mph

Car and Driver could only get a Pro5 5-spd up to 113mph (drag limited). Perhaps with your FS-ZE cams and exhaust, they could get up faster. I've had my '99 ES up to its governor at 119mph, up to which it was still accelerating quite nicely. I figure it could probably redline in 5th near 130mph without any electronic nannies. And I have never had a bad smell no matter how hard I push it, even while autocrossing.

Hey YellowSport20... where in SD are you? And what dealership do you work at? I used to be at Hine, and Kearny Mesa before that (obviously before they shut down). PM me if you don't feel comfortable saying here.

Protege's with FS engines don't have governors. The FPs do and it has been confirmed by several people with this engine on many different boards, plus a Car and Driver review from 1998 (which I will try to find... the online version doesn't have the specs page). I don't want to start this discussion again... I'm sure we wasted plenty of bandwidth with the previous discussions.

That's called a rev limiter and it's there whenever the FS engine hits 6750 rpm (6500 in the FP), no matter what gear you are in (or not in).

My FP is governed at 117 mph. Or about 5800 rpms...It really sucks cause I got some pull left.

Go figure... They put the governor on the engine that has more top-end power. Of course, that may be why...

Car and Driver (Sept. 2002) printed the following in the performance section of their specs page:

0-60 mph: 6.9 sec
1/4 mile: 15.4 sec @ 91 mph
Top Speed: 130 mph (governor limited)

Was that a Mazdaspeed? Cause I know my Protege won't do 0-60 in 6.9 sec.

Yeah thats the Mazdaspeed, but to be honest i don't know how accurate some of the road test results, specifically the top speed results are. I think for a lot of then they take manufactures specs, that are usually underrated as to not get people pissed when they go to do reach a certain level and cannot. Don't even get started on horsepower numbers though some of those are all over the map. But i guess the only way to find out is to give it a go, the only thing i can think of is that based on the fact the car has the same overall gearing of the P5 etc etc 2 liters, is that the car may be reaching redline by 130 MPH.
