I suggest you stop pickin up hoes at the bar...that is prolly where that stench came from...rotten eggs....rotten poon...it is all the same....just keep it at the speed limit, and leave dem hoes alone, and you should have no more stench in your ride (JK btw...)

My brother did fried a rat once, on the trip and at overnight in Brooklyn N.Y some damn rat got into his 2001 GTI VR6 and on the way back home something smelled really bad (McDonalds like) and the smell was there for the next few days until he took it to the service and ... they track it down between engine and tranny.
Never fry with NO Oil !!!!
I took my P5 to 105 and there was no smell, but it did not feel very stabile, I think wider tires would make a difference there.
I will replace our 195/50 16" to 205/50 16" when sp5000 will die.

Okay so the issue of the smell is your cat i would imagine. If you think the protege cat is bad, wait till you drive a new MPV, wow as soon as they get to about 1000 kilometers they are rank, and they are like this on and off for a while. On the topic of govenors you are right they do not exist on your protege, in fact in Canda to my knowlege, the only vechicles with govenors are the B-series pickups and the Tribute sport ulities. Which are 150 and 160 only becuase of the tires they run from the factory aren't high speed rated. And as for my experiences with the protege i have gone 211Km/h along a nice long stretch of road, downhill albeit but still fun, on flat i have gotten it to over 190 before letting off becuase of trafic ahead. Its a 5-speed.

I'm at 3060 kms and my egg smell is not as bad as a couple thousand klicks ago.

The first time I hit 5500 rpm the smell was horrible.

i cant believe some of you can only get to 105-110 in your P5. I have had mine up to 130 on a 6% grade(but that doesn't count) and 121-122 on flat ground. I dont know what you are doing to make it top out so low. I have my roof rack on for a while too and didn't make much difference. maybe 1 mph. And as everyone has stated, it has no govenor only a fuel cut, and if your N/A you probably cant make it there in 5 th anyways.

P.S. I have already warranty replaced a cat but it was the second, was rattling like hell. Never any smell though, but I always drive it hard, so its not new.

all you P5 guys that can't get it past 110 must be doin somethin wrong, i got my auto 1.6l up to 115 and 125 down hill. I don't do that anymore cuz its like riding a shopping cart after 95. Also the cops tend to notice a guy blastin down the road at WOT.

I actually find the throttle pretty responsive at 100+

Got up to 115 and it was still climbing, but I lost the nerve to keep accelerating cause I was cresting a blind hill.

I meant that the thread had been sitting idle for 361 days. Look at the dates next to the posts prior to yours. February 2002... February 2002... and then yours. Was trying to be comedic about it without really getting on your case.
