Yes, from what I understand is it's shorter and lighter.

I wonder if the VCTS was removed on the wagner dyno car. (assuming it had the stock IM)

Variable control tumble system (iirc)....it's basically little piston flaps that create turbulance of the air/fuel mixcture when the coolant temp is below 140* (iirc). It's supposed to help mixture and aid in faster warm-ups. It's really nothing more than an intake blockage. It's also the cause of the desieling noise on cold start-ups. You can remove the VCTS and plug the holes with regular bolts and threadlock!

I believe you gain power a small amount though

nope, it's an obstruction in the air path at best.....removing it increases power....SLIGHTLY.

"slightly" = the difference in blowing through a styrofoam tube with a pencil shoved through it vs. without the pencil.

My mistake, I forgot to mention the mods that he had on his car. Yes he said that he did have an ecu and a axle back exhaust not a full cat back, and intake and header. Ooops. But you do realize that this will put us in Mazdaspeed protege category. We will be almost as fast as they. Oh never mind, on second thought we may be a litttle faster, the Mazdaspeed protege only does 170 to the crank which means that we should have more power to the wheels given drive train loss, and we will not have to wait for a turbo to spool. Given I know the mazdaspeed does spool up quickly, it still will have to spool none the less. Only disadvantage we have is the lack of a lsd on launch.

160whp on an N/A Pro will probably not outrun a MSP without some assistance with the fuel. With those mods + those cams + stock ECU, the FS will be quite peaky I would imagine.
