Arrow Those who have installed cams...

Who has installed the Mazdaspeed & j-spec intake & exhaust cams? Have you dyno'd your car? Did you see any gains?

*wow*

We've certainly got a big group of tuners here!

I'll let you know how it goes once we start doing the mods on the Phantom. I'll have dyno charts, pictures, video, etc.

Cool - I'll be interested to see the difference on an actual dyno. Are you also going to install J-spec pistons?

Mazdaspeed & J-spec cams only (for now). Plus, a 'real' intake (instead of my custom/home made job). Hopefully it will be ready for the dyno party on the 25th of this month. I'm not expecting whopping amounts of hp or anything, I just would like to know if they have made any difference in how the car performs.

Yes.....you can feel the extra performance it gives.....supposedly you get 9 to 10hp on both cams.....they perform the best on higher rpm's aka higher speeds......they didnt give me any low end torque especially off the line.....but I have an automatic what can I expect.....You will love the cams....I am staying with my P5 buddies at the track and smoking them on the freeways!

Thanks Citizen! I was beginning to wonder if anyone here actually had installed them!

I'll probably have them done in a week (hope! hope!)...I'll let you know how it goes.

Please do, Karen. I'm very interested in this as well. Probably not til spring, but none the less want to see some dyno results (as well as "driver impressions.")

TIA - Jim

I have the both the ZE intake and MS exhaust cam in my car. I find that the low end stays relatively the same but it revs better in the high end. Where the OEM's the revs die after 4ish the Mp5 just goes after 4ish till redline. I noticed a big difference with it on. A couple of side notes. The car idles much lower now and my AEM short ram and my cat-back racing beat exhaust is much louder...

I'm using a K&N drop-in filter... so the intake noise for me shouldn't be that much louder. But in the same boat as you, exhaust wise. Not really looking for any additional sound, just pull.

You don't notice any negative effects in the lower RPM range, do you?

Thanks so much,
Jim

Hey 02p5, those Racing Hart/MP3 rims look really sweet on your P5. They look really good.

Since you limited your response to only those who had dynoed and did not have other mods, you cut out a lot of people who had them installed. So before you jump to conclusions, realize what you are asking for.

I for one, could not give you any decent dyno plots because of my other mods, but I do have the Jspec intake and Mazdaspeed exhaust camshafts installed.

So much for the real tuners.

Well, gee...and I suppose you are perfect
[/sarcasm]

I kept searching for anyone who had done either cams and/or headers...but never came up with anything solid as to what people were getting out of them. Now it seems as though people are actually doing some of these mods and getting them dyno'd and/or butt-dyno'd...which is a GOOD THING! I posted up my crazy 'stock' dyno in Edwin's thread. It still cracks me up about the wavy line

I'll keep you guys (and gals) posted on how my mods go...this will be a new avenue for us, since it is not turbo or nitrous related!!

p.s. I said 'big group of tuners' not 'real tuners' Currently it looks like there is a 'small group of tuners' LOL
