those with oil PSi gauges

do you know if you can tap the stock idiot light off the new gauges wiring? Tried a search already and no one brought this up....(on either site)
Going to install an autometer electronic oil psi gauge and dont really want to have to rip out the inst. cluster to remove the led oil lite.

doesn't the oil light come on only if your pressure drops to Zero, or near zero..

wouldn't it be better to get the signal right off of the oil pressure sensor by the oil filter??.. i thought that how the oil pressure gauge needs to be wired up.

maybe i'm wrong, lets see what others say..

Some sending units won't give a true reading, and will only trigger a dummy light, but some give a true reading, although the gauge is only an on/off type gauge. I'm not sure which type we have, the best option would be to probably t-off where the sending unit is on the block, and add another sender, or simply find another location to tap into for the additional sender.

I would think a mechanical guage might be better in this situation...same with fuel pressure. Like Dan said, you just "T" into the line and it gives you real-time info.

Yeah, the mechanical is definitely better, but do you really want a pressurized oil line running into your interior? A good quality electric gauge and sending unit should be sufficient, and no worries about leaks or pinched lines.

im using an electric sender mounted in the same port that our existing sensor is located.
What Im wondering is can I use my new wiring to also trip the stock light, mostly so i dont have to T this that and the other just to get that damn light to turn off....

oh I see.....i dunno. I don't see why not, but I bet you'll have a hell of a lot of work to get it done.

Shouldn't be too hard, the gauge cluster can be removed in about 5 minutes.
