Short Shifter for my 2002 P5

I'm looking at getting a short shifter for my P5. I just have a few questions; What should i look out for, what are the good brands, What i should expect to pay for a good one, etc.

Also, i can feel a thicker part half way up (or down) the stock shifter. It kind of feels like 2 rods that thread into each other. Does anyone know if the 2nd half just screws off and then the stock **** screws onto the bottom half, or is it for something else?

I have the B&M and I love it.

As for the extension, it's attached with a thick rubber sleeve. To remove it you have to heat it up with a torch and twist it off. There are no threads left, so you have to get a **** that attaches with set screws. I removed mine before I got the B&M SS and it 'seemed' to give a more comfortable throw. However, I'd never give up my SS now.

BTW, no matter what you do, get the Kartboy bushings. They take some of the slop out of the shift.

I love my B&M! Best thing I've bought for my car yet.

you can't install the shifter by just taking off the center console
and popping it out of the socket?

apart from the bottom of the car. wat waz mazda thinking???

Sorry, there's no other way to do it on a FWD car. It's not that big a pain, just get a nice set of Rhino Ramps. They're worth the money.

I have decided to get a short shifter, Yeah!!! I just had a look at the kartboy site and found that they not only have the bushings but they also have a short shifter. Can someone please compare the kartboy shifter to the B&M shifter. Is there much difference. There is a big price difference, the Kartboy shifter+bushings are $105 where just the B&M shifter is $135.

What does everyone think about the Kartboy shifter. Should I get the Kartboy shifter or just fork out the extra cash and get the B&M. I have no idea. Please HELP.

Thanks,
TDK

It's one fricken bolt to remove the linkage! how else are you going to attatch the shifter to the control arm?

I did a shortshifter install on a honda, i think i took out a half dozen bolts under the car to get it out....

Kartboy shifter VS B&M shifter, who is the winner. What is the difference between the two. Is it justified to spend more for the B&M.

Thanks,
TDK

I have the Kartboy and love it. The only diffrence it that the B&M uses it's own set of bearings whilst the Kartboy uses the stock ones. Either way you go your getting a great shifter though.

thanks for the promotion beernut!

but, yeah thats me, i have ordered the initial order, but i anticipate having *at least* one extra combo (****, bushing, shifter), the total is only 115 shipped anywhere in the us. there has been an INSANE amount of interest in this, more than i could have imagined, so if you are trying to get the extras, please contact me asap, they will not last long.
