RECALL for 99 & 00

i'm curious if anyone else has heard of the recall for the airflow meter on the 99's and i believe the 00's.

i called them up bitching about the fact that my car didn't want to go when i pushed on the gas. the guy told me that just a month or so ago they put out a warranty extension to 80k miles for that part.......

i assumed most of you had replaced it anyway, but for us ppl w/o the time or money to get an intake, there's a prob.

and BTW, out of curiousity, what do you do when you put an intake on a 99, as far as the air flow meter is concerned. i'm guessing you have to buy a new one?

It wasn't a recall. What Mazda did was send out a letter saying that if anyone had to replace the MAF sensor and pay for it, that they would reimburse the person for whatever they paid if they showed valid receipts from the dealer saying they paid for it. The letter stated that you should not take your car in to have the MAF replaced if it was running fine, because this was not a recall.

MAF malfunction symptoms

Hesitation shifting gears - from 1st - 2nd, then get a CEL. Just thought I would give a heads up on the problem as a co-workers 00 pro had this problem. Fix is FREE!

Car runs much smoother

try cleaning the eye of the sensor with a cutip and some lens cleaner like for contacts. my intake instructions told me to do it and it worked. before i did i had the same problems.

Damn, I replaced mine about 3 months ago and had no idea Mazda would reimburse. MAF sensor was around $100 for a rebuit one including turning in the old one. Huh....maybe it's worth a shot
