Question about a noise

I hear this faint sort of "click" sound almost everytime I come to a stop or a split second after I press on the gas pedal. Otherwise, the car runs perfectly, and I'm pretty sure it's done this since I got the car, but having used the heater for almost the entire time I've had the car (combined with the radio/CD) I hadn't noticed it as much as I am noticing it now. It almost sounds like the automatic transmission engaging/disengaging, but I can't be sure of that.

I was just wondering if anyone else knows what I'm talking about, and whether it is anything to be concerned about. Btw, it's a 2002 LX.

P.S. Be gentle, I'm not the least bit mechanically inclined .

A lot of the 2002s have "clicking" drivers doors. Is it possible it's that sound?

Thumbs down Clicking NOISE

I experience this click sometimes as well. It is the frame of the seat. On my end. I am really thinking about replacing the seats in my car. I do NOT find them to be overly supportive, or comfortable.

Has anyone replaced their seats yet, or can point me in the right direction. The car handles great, but gives a false feel because of no support offered by seats.

In my case, I'm not convinced that it's the seat. It seems to come from the front.

I thought it might be at first, but it can't be. I haven't used the AC since I got the car (no need yet), and I rarely use the defrost position.

Noice in front of car

How many miles are on the car?

It could possibly be a control arm, or spring... Realy it could be anything to do with suspension if it only happening when you come to a stop or starting off..

I would look into looseness in suspension or cotter(???) keys possibly hitting on a moving part of suspension or even brakeing mechanism.

There are just to many possibilities without being in the car or outside the car.

Keep us informed.

i think I know that sound you are describing.. I have heard it too... but I drive stick... and usually ac off and vent position 2 (floor and vents)

I notice that the slight clicking seems to occur when I do or have done something to the pedals (either pressing or releasing)... doens't happen all the time.... but then I kinda feels like the sound is coming from the center part... the area between the two front seats.... then I kinda deduced that it was maybe coming from my seat because of slight body movements when I move my feet....

hope you find a better explaination.

Come to think of it, that description sounds very much like what I hear, and it does seem to be "pedal" connected. It also seems to come from the center, but more towards the front of the car. I too don't hear it all the time, or at least don't notice it. Like I said, the car runs perfectly otherwise.

Update

Well, I took my car in for the 8 month servicing today and told them about the problem. I'm always weary about describing these things to mechanics and so on, because so often the noises mysteriously disappear when you want them to hear them. This time, however, I got lucky, as the mechanic noticed the clicking right away when he took it for a test run.

I watched 3 mechanics search for the source of the sound for about a half hour. They tightened bolts, they greased the suspension, they even removed one of the brake shoes and lubricated it. All this time, I was watching and growing more and more conerned - after all, the car doesn't even have 10,000 KMs on it yet. As long as I'm under warranty, I can feel a little relief though.

They told me nothing until it was time to pay. Turns out the problem was a defective anti-vibration rubber. Don't ask me what that is, I have no idea. I guess they changed it, because I am happy to report that the clicking has disappeared!

What really bothers me is that this was happening from the day I picked up the car. But you know, with the sterio on and then the heater fan during the winter, I didn't pay much attention to it. But this spring it started to annoy me. I wanted to take it in, but I figured I'd wait for my next check up.

Anyway, I'm glad that's over with. I hope I never hear that sound again.
