and there is NO WAY I would drop $15 to JC Whitney or anyone else for that....just go out and buy some magents anywere you can find them....get a few....put them on the outside of the oil filter after you change the oil and them put a hose clamp around them to make sure they stay put.....
I personally live in a rural community....and there are a lot of cattle ranchers around here.....i can go to any feed store and buy COW MAGNETS....they are actually magnets that they put in a cows stomach to attract and contain metal junk that they injest....they are about a 1/2 inch square cross section and about 3 inches long....but anything like that would work.

I would venture that it wouldn't make sense to have a filter with magnets in it for costing purposes, nor would you want to throw them away when you could get an add on device with magnets. Manufactures do already use magnets. The oil pan plug is commonly magnetic to catch small particles that settle in the bottom of the oil pan.

magnets will HELP the filter filter out stuff. it wraps around on the outside and all the small shavings from your engine will get attracted to the wall of the filter on the inside rather than go back into the engine. when you remove the filter the shavings that were filtered out by filter as well as the ones that got stuck to the wall (usually they might go back into your engine) will get thrown away witht he filter. i wanted to get this for a while now but tottaly forgot about it. thanks for reminding me guys.

i still think it is money well spent in other places. if you have metal shavings in your oil that a magnet is going to pick up in your oil filter, you have bigger problems than the magnet is going to help with.

yeah i guess. but can't hurt. there is a kit now available where when you change your oil you fill a little container with your old oil and send it off to some company somewhere. they analyze it and let you know in what kind of condition your engine is. IIRC its no more than $20
