Problems With CAI on 2000 protege LX
I have the CAI from ebay(great quality) but i am haveing just one problem. A slight studder sort of like a miss. only happens when i am just trying to ease on the gas instead of flooring it. It is not my mass air flow sensor because i just had it replaced less than three thousand miles ago. Covered under warranty. Anyone got any ideas. I heard something about a seal trick whats that about sorry i tried to search for but im a newb and i couldn't find it.

huh, The seal trick is for the 1.6L or 1.8L engines I believe.
I have noticed my ebay intake causes a slight stumble every 4 or 5 seconds at idle but not enough to even notice (for the common man).
The "miss" you're experiencing may be from the fact that the engine is sucking a much larger volume of colder air than it is used to. I would try disconnecting your negative battery terminal. Sit on the brake pedal for 10 seconds, let the car sit for a minute or two and then reconnect the battery. This will allow the ECU to re-learn some simple inputs. This may fix it for you.

ahhh...Matty showing his ignorance of any pre 2002 3rd gens again, hehe ..........heres what you do...go buy a bicycle inner tube...make a template of the surface where the maf seals to the intake tube...cut out a gasket from the inner tube...woila !!! no leaks!! no CELS, no shudders....also check to make sure the maf is pointing in the right direction...hot wire MAFS are VERY susceptable to air turbulence...once this is done THEN reset the ECU

Thanks for the info i just got back from wal-mart, got a bike inertube, gonna try it tommorrow hope to the sweet lord it works cause i love that damn intake, awesome sound and noticeable difference over stock. cant believe it only set me back 47.00 and the injen is 256.00, its made exactly like it except for the cone and i can always get a better one. People will really try to shaft you on aftermarket parts. 256.00 for a red sticker that says injen. LOL

yup yup....if you would like I can powdercoat the intake for you for a small fee. I think I may start buying the ebay intakes and pre-coat them and selluing them for about $65-75. I think they'd still be a great value. What do you think?

I was of course exaggerating about the price, but still, there's no reason why you couldn't get a better price directly from whoever imports them from god knows where, powdercoat them and stick yer own label on 'em.
