P5 Air condensor makes a sound all the time now????

Hi,

I started to hear a sound from my 2002 P5 from around the start of the year. Normally when you turn the air-con on it makes that clicking sound or air being released sound (like a blow-off valve). Now when i use the air-con it makes that sound EVERY time after i release my foot off the pedal after accelerating. This doesn't happen when i'm NOT using the air-con.

I just had my 20,000km service last week, and i asked the mazda service what it was doing. After a couple of test drives they said it was normal for the air-condensor to kick in after high revs. The thing is that i have now had the car for about a year, and i only started to hear this sound a couple of months ago. The sound is too loud and noticeable for me not to notice it for 10 months. So then if it's normal then why wasn't it doing it for the 10 months previous to me hearing it, mazda couldn't answer me.

Has anyone had this problem, is it really normal or do they not know what they are talkin about. If anyone can give me some advice or info it would be much appreciated.

The compressor turns off at WOT, so as you let off the gas, you probably hear it kicking back in... Also, make sure your mode selector is in "Panel" or "Panel and FLoor" mode. The A/C is on even in Floor alone mode...

I'm glad that you all find that funny, but considering that I’m from Australia, and that we don't use those terms for describing those settings, you can understand why i was mistaken. At the time of reading, due to my unfamiliarity of the terms, I thought that it might be some mechanical settings that I didn't know about. I believe that for someone that doesn't know much about car mechanics it is quite easy for them to become confused, that is why people like me ask questions on these forums.

These forums were introduced for friendly advice and help, not to criticise or belittle people for seeking help/advice.

This is why I believe that your "DUH" comment was rude and uncalled for.

Wow, you must really know your ****. Can I email you personally with all of my questions too?

Personally, I think that Edwin is a pretty funny guy. Perhaps some people need to lighten up...

I guess that anyone reading this thread now will agree that i should "lighten up", but there was another post apart from "TheMAN". Those two together were what upset me, but the 2nd "DUH" reply has now been deleted.

But anyway, these forums aren't here to have a bitch about other people.

Back to my question............ I checked my A/C settings and it's set on "panel" (only the vents to the head area are on). I understand that the A/C will turn on and off when needed. But why can i now notice it making the noise?

In "Panel" and "Panel and Floor" modes, the A/C will only come on if the button is pressed. In the others, the A/C will come on automatically.

Since you're from australia, I'll ask if you have the auto climate controls, or just the manual ones? (Is there an indicator for "Auto" somewhere on the fan speed, and is your temp selector measured in actual degrees, or just a red / blue type setup?)

Yes, the models down here in Australia have the auto climate control. For a while i would select the temperature and then select "Auto" on the speed and position dials. For the last few months i have instead selected the temperature and then used the manual speed selection (normally the lowest speed). The position dial also has a "auto" selection, but i have it on the "panel" position (where the air is only blown to the head area).

Could the difference in sound be from the difference in using the auto or manual speed settings?

Thanks,
TDK

I'm assuming the "auto" setting use the A/C, so as long as it's all in manual mode, you should not have the compressor cycling...
