Question My new P5 is too fast!

Hey all. My fiance and I just bought a 2002 P5 last Thursday, and I have a couple of questions about it...

My previous ride was a 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS with substantial weight reduction. It weighed in at a nice 2740lbs. It was a manual with a 165hp motor.

The P5 is an automatic, and is supposed to be packing an amazing 130hp. The previous owner put in a catback exhaust. That is its only visible modification. I bought the car from a dealership, so talking to the previous owner is probably impossible.

The car sure doesn't feel like it only has 130hp. Today, while rounding a corner, I gave it about 3/4 throttle and it lit up the inside tire.

I am going to G-Tech it tonight and see what it pulls. I am not sure what to expect for numbers. Anybody else G-Tech their P5? If I notice a discrepancy in power between a stock P5, what should I look for? Its hard to believe that just a cat-back exhaust would make this car feel this strong!!!

Thanks for any help you guys can shed.

-Danny

it might feel fast but a stock pr5 runs high 16 1/4 miles...mine with just 2lbs boost should run mid 15s and with 6lbs should run high 14s...hopefully

the car has a lot of torque down low in the rpm range. i believe the 2.0 liter engine is rated at 135 ft-lbs, but most of it is available below 4500rpm.

This probably has much more to do with the Protege's lack of inside front traction than it has to do with an overabundance of power.

If this is the old GTech Pro (as opposed to the new GTech Competition), why bother? These things are so hideously inaccurate that they're almost a joke. Do it right- take it to the strip and let us know what it runs.

Hi danny and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

well the P5 (protege in general in fact) is an awsome piece of machinery.....by far the best handling little pocket rocket on the market right off the showroom floor...have fun...and be careful.

I donno, I have an auto and the gearing is just perfect for my P5 to slip up the tires...

Then again I don't have a LSD or anything.

Yah, might not be able to obtain clearance for doing any drag strip runs. (gives a loving stare to his Fiance )

On the other hand, the G-Tech pro indicates a whopping 95hp to the front wheels. Guess my ***-dynometer needs calibration!

Thanks for all the great replies!

Unfortunately, that is probably close to correct.

Hey DannyRS,

My previous car was a 2000 Impreza 2.5RS too.

I agree with carguygw the feeling of more power is deceiving. Take it on the highway or up a hill and you can really tell the lack of. But for me no complaints but the subaru on the other hand...

later.
