Muffler question

I have been contemplating whether to switch to a larger muffler in hope of some perfomance gains, however I dislike the sounds of after market mufflers since most of them are noisy, growly in a bad sense, and even farty.

I want a muffler that gives a quiet and subdued bassy sound and I was thinking about any recommendations you guys may have. The number one criteria for them is to be quiet like stock.

A friend of mine has an ITR muffler on his 93 Civic hatch, and it is very quiet. The bulk of the noise comes from this 200hp custom rebuilt engine. I was wondering if Proteges can be outfitted with larger mufflers from the 626 V6, MPV, Miata etc.

Oh, and price is a factor too. I don't have a fortune to spend on a Racing Beat catback.

Magnaflow has a nice deep tone, but still can be a little loud at times. When at cruisin speed though, it not bad at all.

I have a Magnaflow and love it. Not loud at all, but between 3000 and 4500 rpms it sounds good. Nice low rumble, as opposed to a high pitched whining sound. I had it done at a local muffler shop, sounds great

i read somewhere that vibrant makes a exhaust for our car, its about 250 bucks if they make it and it will add usually abour 3fwhp and they are extremely quite until 5/6k rpm, and they have the best sound i have ever heard. i wish i could afford one.
