Muffler Question

Could someone please help me and tell
me what brand of muffler I could buy that
would be under $200 and still give decent
horsepower? I've looked out some magnaflows
but the guy at a muffler told me that they break
in half at the welding seems.
I've also looked at some aerospeed mufflers.
Are they any good?

Ok look. I'm fixin to take my car to maxi muffler to
get a muffler put on it. What size pipes should I
get put on? 2" or 2 1/2"? I'm even gonna replace the
pipe running from the header to the catalytic converter.

Also, I wanted to know if that if i just decided to just get a straight 2" or 2 1/2" running straight from my header back
to the end of the car if it would give the car more power
than $150 muffler that i'd have to buy.

The catalytic converter is gonna be left on.
Someone told me that i'd better keep it on because
the car needs so much back pressure.

Would the car sound good without a muffler? if not better?

Sorry bruce if this isnt in the right category. Wasnt sure about
it.

No bigger than 2 1/4'' pipe
A muffler will help, but you really shouldn't expect a big gain, because you'll be VERY lucky if you get one.
You don't need back pressure, you need the exhaust gas to move as fast as it can. which is why 2 1/2'' pipe is too big for such a small engine.
Pseudo can explain this better than me. I know what I'm trying to say but don't think I can explain it clearly enough.
It would probably be too loud and attract the attention of alot of cops with no muffler.

I dunno...according to Richard from Brullen Exhaust (www.burllenexhaust.com), you DO need SOME backpressure, hence the reasoning for NOT getting bigger than 2.5" piping...

You can find all types of mufflers on Ebay ... for like 50 bux ... make sure you get something that fits in the bumper opening just right .. this is what I did

ok, thanks menace.
i think thats what im gonna do then is put a glass
pack on it. Much cheaper than a racing muffler.
I just hope that it sounds as good as you say it does.
so a glass pack with a straight pipe. right? 2.5"?
Should i replace the pipe running from the header to the converter too?

John the 1.5 has 2 O2 sensors ... one in the exhaust manifold and the other in the downpipe....

But you dont want a big exhaust, because the puffs wont go straight back but will like crowd in wierd directions in the tube if its too big, ill try to find or remake the pic thatw as posted here a while ago.

I would say have a shop build you a straight pipe with glass pack for 150 bucks like I had made. sounds SO much better than any fart can, and is a true straight pipe...

you wont see many HP gains from exhausts though so dont be betting on that

Hey John, do you think you could
maybe record the sound of your
exaust system and post it?

I'm really eager to hear what it sounds
like.

A buddy of mine just got a glass pack, its red.
not sure what brand but he said he'll give
it to me. Does it matter what kind?

ok yall, i really need yall for this.
I need to know whether or not I should
go with a straight pipe with a glass pack with a tip added on
or to go with a racing muffler.

Please reply with either straight or muffler.
I really need yall's input so please help.

Thanks

so all i need is:

and they'll provide the rest? [pipes and the tip]

how much do you think the tip cost?
my cousin has those same tips welded on his monte carlo.
