ok, nice feedback on the post :P, but to be serious, im looking into heavy modding for a '99 es. so far i found that the intake and exhaust systems need to be changed first, which i plan to change the air box and filter, bore the intake pipeing to 2.5", increase the throttle body and manifold, switch to 4-2-1 headers, (seems better then 4-1) get a freeflow cat, have the silencer bored to about 2.25" or 2.5" (unsure of the torque ranges.) and just get a full cat-back system and save my self some problems. i know for a fact that i want to stay away from turbo for now, because i dont want to go into heavy ecu moding, and i dont want to throw 3k out to get forced induction when na is just as powerful in low ranges. I am going to research the advanced ignition timing mod and see where that takes me.
I would like some feedback on engine internals, and such. Including cam gears, pistons and the likes. i figure with a good 20 hp boost already, i want to see what could be achieved with cams, and how high comp. pistons will help out. as for bore and stroke, and balancing and extensive and costly moding, i dont want to change the entire engine layout, and ecu mapping. (I do plan on driving the car.)
One last thing, about cams... the intake cams seem alot more worth while, while only about $150 bucks max mixed with intake/exhaust systems, but what if you used both advanced intake and exhaust cams... would the benefits increase or is it still a waste to get exhaust cams?
thanks a bunch for all the imput, ive been learning alot from this forum, and im far from done

Although I'm not exactly sure what you mean by boring the intake piping, and the silencer, I would guess that you mean replacing them with larger pieces??
As for gains, they're right, without a good standalone, you're looking at spending alot of money for little gains. If you really want that much more power and be able to drive it on a daily basis, I'd consider nitrous.

I'm not going to be buying a Protege5 for speed.. it'll just look nice and have a good sound system. If you want go-fast goodies and have them make a significant improvement, start with a faster car.
