Question

Is that the same exhaust that Mazda dealers are calling the "sport exhaust" ?

MaxxMazda....

I put mine on last week.... Did you initially have to really shift it over a lot to keep it aligned with the curve in the rear bumper?
I have to keep it shifted over to the left.... and then put a few tie straps around the hanger rods stinking out to keep it in place.

Just curious...

It is a sweet exhaust!

I'd like to know about that also. I don't like the look of the bosal muffler.

Nick,

So, will you use your employee discount for us Calgary types so we can get the good price on the muffler, and then let us come over and use your hoist? (j/k)

The exhaust looks great, enjoy it! Hey, when are you putting your new rims on? Should be safe after today I would think. Looking forward to seeing that too.

Dale.

Looks Awesome! I have the same questions too! What does it sound like on the highway when running around 4000rpms? And is this the same as the Sport Muffler that Mazda sells?

Looks exactly like the sport exhaust. Dealer price is $220 US but there are dealers that are already listing it for $199.

Is this the same "Sport Exhaust" for the Protege sedan? According to www.mazdastuff.com ( http://www.mazdastuff.com/product.cfm?ProductID=975), it states: "ALL APPLICABLE 2001/2002 PROTEGE SEDAN (4-DOOR)MODELS; Does not include the Protege 5, to be introduced in the future."

Is this true??

You have two exhausts...

One for the sedan and one for the P5

The P5 part number is 0000-8M-C10
If you look at "mazdastuff.com" they have the picture of the above part number for the sedan. This is wrong. I am not sure of the part number for the sedan. Just tell them or your dealer you want to one for the P5... it is the above number, they are listed differently.

The sedan is longer than the P5 so the exhaust for the MP3 for example will be too long for the P5.

The cost "retail" is $220. You can order it from your dealer. I am not sure of the availabilty. I ordered mine in Jan and got it about 2 weeks ago.

The exhaust is made by Mazda, not Racing Beat. It has nothing to do with the MP3... That is a muffler Racing Beat did make. However the parts you order from Mazda are made by Mazda. You can ask about the Racing Beat stuff for the Sedan and P5 and some of it is made by Racing Beat, such as Springs, Sway bars.... etc. Racing Beat is making a cat-back for the P5, at $495. Is a true cat back worth it on the P5? I don't think so unless you are running a ton of other mods. Most of the power gains involving the exhaust are gonna come from a header change...
An increase in pipe diameter will make marginal difference....In my opinion.

In a TRUE cat back replacement, you would replace the cat as well, which is more than changing just the pipe. I would hope for $495, they would include a performance cat, which would keep you legal as far as emissions, but the performance cat won't kill as much of your hp as a stock one would.
