K&N filter installation
Installed few days ago K&N drop in filter on my Mazda 323F 2,0 SPORT and now I have little misfiring and also noticed increase of fuel consumption.
Are there any suggestions with installation as resetting ECU, etc....?

I have never heard a filter causeing this before.....but....you could try resetting the ecu.....or maybe before you do that....swap back to the stock air filter and see if the problem disappears.....it may just be a coincidence that the problem rose it ugly head right after the filter change.

Tried that and problem dissapeared. So my wild guess is that somehow the ECU thinks that there is more air in the intake and gives more fuel as well. It causes plugs to get little wet and it causes misfireing. Engine also takes about 15% more gas!
How long should I leave the battery disconnected to reset ECU?

Okay.....you are right...the ecu is CORNFUZZLED.....so....disconnect the NEGITIVE terminal of the battery.....hop in the car and press down on the break pedal a few times...this actually discharges a few capacitors that hold power.....then give it about 10 minutes just to be sure....hook the battery back up....start your car...and allow it to idle for about 10 minutes.....the ECU will RELEARN the arrangement and you should be all set after that..

IIRC, disconnecting the negative resets my trip meter, my clock, and my radio station presets. i think that's it

Sometimes there is too much oil in the filter element from K&N. One of the things that can happen with K&N filters is they will let a small amount of filter oil into the intake tract. The MAF is just after the filter and uses a hot wire in the air stream. If oil gets on the wire it will completely skew the computers flow readings. The best way to cure this is to clean oil out of the filter, and LIGHTLY re-oil it.

as mentioned by ZOOM....it will NOT MESS anything up....you just have to reset your clock and your radio presets.....that is it.
check how much oil is in the filter as you get it from the box.....hold it in your hand...stand out on your driveway...and hold it at arms length....and thrust it down ward as fast as you can....do not let go....try to SLING oil off of it...can you? if you can...its got to much on it...if not...you are pretty much good to go.

I dropped in a K&N and had no problems.

on my shelby turbo, and my mustang I used to disconnect the battery every few months or so to erase any bad habits the ECU may have picked up. Always ran better after... especialy the turbo.

Yes all the cars and bike run, and run very good.
Only my race car is broken right now, because I ripped the rear end out last week at the drag strip!
My 2000lbs RX7 is my race car
My Shelby is 98% restored. I have replaced everything in the car except the insides.
My wife drives the MP3
The J spec Turbo is what I have been driving, between the GXL.
All the cars have to run, because of where I live doesn't allow non running vechicles to be on the property!
I have 3 dogs. 2 Sharpeis and a Pit bull. I also have 5 chickens!
I am a CAD Engineer, I work for NASA, Army Corp of Engineers and the Navy, I run my own business under a corporate shell.
