Talking Installed POP Style Filter

WWWeeeHHaaaa!!

I cut out the stock air box and moved the MAF sensor close to the throttle body & plugged a K&N cone filter on the MAF.

I have NEVER had this much of a performance difference for a measley $25!!

The engine pulls lustily and sounds great as the revs climb over 3K.

I did this too last week, but with a Magnaflow filter. Very nice.
More power? I don't know. But throttle response is a lot better,
the sound is sweet, and it seems to get less choked up at 4500+ RPM's.

But now I think I'm going to have to buy a cheap short ram kit off E-bay.
Why? Because after installing the Magneflow, the temp sensor? wire
is just hanging in the engine bay, and someone said this is bad.

I guess I should buy the cool looking tubing and cheap filter off e-bay
for 35 dollars, because that tubing has a place to plug in this wire.

Am I crazy? Or how else would you just install a POP style filter with
this wire? BTW I haven't noticed any adverse effects but now that
I see that wire does have a purpose.....

I have an 2002.5 P5

Uh, it's not hard to imagine. I used a utility knife on the rubber hose from the throttle body-to-MAF at the air box. I cut it just where the 'expandable' section starts.

I unbolted the MAF from the air box and pushed it into the hose & clamped it. i moved the wire bundle and connector to re-attach it. I let the air temp sensor from the air box dangle next to the filter and secured it. I then slid the K&N cone filter on to the MAF sensor.

Fancy? No.
Show worthy? Probably not.

Effective? Yes (IMHO).
Inexpensive? Yes.

I drove through serious rain/flooding conditions last night - no problum, mon!

No CEL.

Nonononononono....

There is a black rubber hose coming from the throttle body and connecting with the MAF at the airbox. I *shortened* it and re-attached the MAF (now _closer_ to the throttle body) and then put a cone filter directly on the MAF.

You must have a MAF for the fuel injection to work properly.

'k?

Yes.

Also, the temp sensor *in* the air box is to sense the air temp of the incoming air which is different from engine bay temp. With the cone filter, engine bay temp *is* my air inlet temp. No further mods needed.

I will take the money i saved and buy an MPV intermitant wiper stalk and THROUGH THE CHEAP POC THAT CAME WITH THE CAR OUT THE WINDOW!!

'whew'.

Good rant, tho' eh?

I bought that cheap intake kit from eBay. It's decent, but has a few issues. Securing the intake with the provided straps is not easy - if someone has a definite method, please let me know! I did get it secured, but it required a lot of bending and modifying of the straps.

I also have to adjust it so that it does not hit the master cylider and cause vibration in the brakes. I've got it pretty good - but upon takeoff, it does give one or two little pops, and it's annoying. I might have to trim the pipe where it clamps to the throttle body to get it to fit properly.

Other than that, it's a decent kit - and well worth the $40 considering other intakes are $200+
