How much miles do you have on your car. If you have more than 12k You probably need to change your plugs. The owners manual says 18k but 12k is a good time to start checking. The stock plugs suck. Put bocsh(sp??) platnium +1 in or +4. People say the +4 are a waste of money and dangerous b/c one the the grounding tips could break off. I have 50k on my P5 and run +4 and it helps rev smoother and idle better. I would recommend getting 8 MM plug wires to go along with the new plugs. This should help your idle ALOT and smooth out your reving. If you have a old 350 I would say change your cams b/c its lobing but its not so i won't. You probably should replace your fuel filter. Mazda says do that around(either 18k or 30k I can't remember). That should help some. You probably should buy some injecter cleaner. B-12 makes one of the best cleaners and its 2.99 a can. I Used to work at pep boys and that about all we sold.

18K for plugs...WOW My manual for my 99 says every 30k. Why did they change that so they have to be changed so soon..?

Plugs are fine until 30,000mi. I heard the need to be changed every 12,000mi in Cali, so thy just stuck that in the manual. (Hey, Mazda makes a killing on parts that way! )

What is it with you and Bosch?

Anyway the NGK plugs that come stock with our car are just fine and inexpensive to boot. But it doesn't sound like you have a plug problem. You may have a vacuum leak or something. Easy to get the plugs off though and have a look. And no harm in changing them (as long as they are gapped properly). I've heard someone else complain about something like this. Do a search.

the only reason i gripe about the plugs is b/c i had my original in for 10k and i got really bad gas mileage around 9k and wheni pulled my plugs they were a big piece of charcoal. My bosch i put in 40K miles ago still look brand new when i pull them out. They make a better plug for 15 bucks a pop but the best alternative is bosch. I worked at pep boys a while and it seemed to be the best from all the experiences we had with them.
