The hp to the wheel for the 1.6L is usually b/w 70-75hp as I stated near the beginning of the post.

So I'm sure the 1.8 is b/w the 1.6 and 2.0. So I guess it has aroung 85hp to the wheel.

thx thats good to know

but genrally all the engines are losing 30 hp
so i'm geussing it more around 90 - 95 hp lol
but then again the 1.6L, 1.8L, and 2.0L all have different trannys, and each tranny could take up a different amount of power

hmmmm now 90 to the wheels doesn't seem like that much....hmmm

also isn't the 1.8L supposed to be very close to the 2.0L in performance....and some say that it gets more high end power, but the 2.0L has more low end torque.
so I'm pretty much confused at this point to which of the engines gets more power

I can understand why they switched to the 2.0L....cuz our pros are not that powerful...and the 2.0L engine producing more low end torque would help.

I remember reading some old posts and someone dynoed their 1.8L and all they had was i think a intake and muffler and they reported 110hp to the wheels......which is very good (only around 10 % drivetrain loss but i"m thinking the 122 stock hp # would be higher(cuz of the mods))
so i'm thinking the 1.8L only has about a 15% (which is normal from what i hear) drivetrain loss)
and well the 2.0L has a pretty high 25% loss if the hp at the wheels is only 102 - 105

man all this typing I'm starting to confuse myself....so I'm never gtonna type again muahahahahaha

From the dyno we did, the lost of power from all the pros were about the same. Each protege lost at least 25hp. We had proteges from each engine size.

A Miata gets 6-7 with those mods so with your 2.0L I would say at most no more than 8-10 wheel horses.

Hmmm...I thought it would be just a little bit more than that, but I guess that sounds reasonable.

so a 25 loss would result in me having about 95- 100hp

**97 to be exact**

I geuss I already abandoned that idea

yeah, and subtract 7-10hp from it. Lost_Concept got 97hp out of his P5. I doubt your would be that close to a 2.0 But I'm just trying to estimate here. The two 1.8s there both did like around 95-100hp, but they both had exhaust and intake.

There arent many quality cars out there for around 14 grand that have more than 130hp.

The protege engines weren't restricted much from the factory so adding headers, intake, and exhaust would be lucky to net you 20hp at the crank. If you want a miracle, buy a turbo or install some high compression pistons.

cool redrims...thanks...

the exhaust system that the 2 1.8s had....was it a full cat back exhaust...or was it something else...?

I think that's before the turbo. I think he's getting upwards of 150 to the wheels now.

i think he's talking about the power that the turbo alone puts out, so yes he should be getting around 150 total

one had an axle back and one had the full cat-back exhaust. The one with the full cat-back exhaust tested just over 100hp. The one with the axle-back tested less.

i got a question...

Say you take a 1.8 with 122 hp.
You add a intake, header, custom or chrome or ceramic exaust 2.25 pipes, and a straight through muffler.
Would you just be freeing up more of the hp to reach wheels? I mean you would be adding any more hp to the crank would you? I mean yeah any forced induction, changing the pistons, cams, or head work would obviously add hp to the engine. But just freeing up intake and exaust does that ADD to the crank??
