HP estimate(based on mods)

help me out here guys...I've been trying to decide what to do to make my lowly 1.6L a little faster....lets assume OBX releases their long tube header...If i had header with one cat removed,2.25 Catback to a straight thru muffler, and a CAI,what kind of hp,lets just say crank, could I expect....educated answers only, please! No post ******...Instead of this junkyard turbo,I may just do this for daily driving and go with a N20 50 Shot for some racin'....thx in advance!!!

10 hp?? really?? I feel based on the posts I've seen you seem to be pretty knowledgeable ambient, but I've seen dynos with a CAI alone netting 5 hp at the wheels!!thats at least 7 at the crank... you're telling me that headers, catback and straightthru muffler will only net a 3 hp gain??? not trying to be a smart ***,but if your gonna lowball me at least give me a reason why!

Ok it'll give you 50hp, that make you feel better?

I just don't see it giving you MUCH hp, and I meant that at the wheels. All you're doing is freeing up a little stock intake and exhaust restriction. You are doing basic bolt ons to a stock engine, don't expect to have a speed monster.

chill man,I wasnt trying to be a smart ***...I just expected a response of more like 17-20,especially since in my post I asked about CRANK hp...I dont expect 50hp or a speed demon to materialize....I wasnt trying to insult you..I understand what adding I/H/E does,I just figured a little bit more than 10hp

fyi-you dont gain hp by replacing the flywheel, you will rev faster though,so the car may be faster

I was thinking about 20-25hp to the wheel. I'm thinking about going the same route you are before I get my swap. I dyno tested my car about 2 months ago with just exhaust and I got 71hp and 77 ft lbs of torque to the wheel.
Biknman(the guy w/the 1.6 turbo), tested last year at 85hp to the wheel with a CAI and mazdaspeed exhaust.
I think the header should add like another 7hp at least.

Hope this helps.

well I'll try to explain it for you...

hp at the crank is basically the horsepower produced right out of the engine....so that would be the stated hp #s that most car manufacturers state.
so for you it would be the 130hp if you have the 2.0L FS-DE engine
122hp if you have the 1.8L FP-DE engine &
103 hp if you have the 1.6L ZM-DE engine

hp at the wheels means basically what the hp is rated at the wheels of your car.
the reason the hp would be different is because the power has to go through the drivetrain before getting to the wheels. and the drivetrain also takes away from some of the total.
I don't know about the 1.6l and the 1.8L at the wheels
but generally from what i read the 2.0L engine is around 100hp at the wheels.

so the engine produces 130hp
but as it gets down to the wheels and all the components of the drivetrain and etc moving....only 100hp is left...which is what is rated at the wheels

I hope i didn't confuse you.....i tried to explain it the best i cvan...maybe someone else can explain it better
