I change the oil (M1 10-30) and filter (Mazda OEM) every 4 months/5,000 miles. Since I don't put many miles on my car, it's usually 4 months.

Thanks for all the replies. Has anyone ever tried Royal Purple Motor Oil? Also, has anyone tried the new Fram 'Sure Drain'?

www.fram.com click on 'Sure Drain' image

or check this out

The product is pretty nifty, but the only thing im afraid is the plug leaking. It also could void your warranty... ?

I considered that thing when I needed a new filler plug, but after seeing its $14.00 price tag and the possibility of leaking (doesnt look very leak proof, and its made by fram, so u have to wonder)
I decided to pass.

If your worried about getting oil on your hands, buy some thin rubber gloves like the doctors wear.

I considered one of those things too, especially after a friend of mine bought one for his truck and said it worked fine. In the end though, I just couddn't bring myself to buy a product made by Fram.

I use AmsOil and Purolater Pureone filters(the one for the 626 6cyl.) I change both every 5000 miles. That's still better then the Mazda's recommendation for dino, so I figure I'm good. I urge everyone to checkout this site: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/
it sure opened my eyes about oil filters in general and Fram in particular.

I use Quaker State 5w-30 reglar oil. Change it every 3000 kms along with the oil filter (mazda oem and crush washer). Go over 3000 kms now and then due to road trips but usually change it when I get home. New oil is cheaper than a new engine.

I change ours every 3000-4000 miles. The LX gets 5w20 but I'm going to most likely change it to 5w30 next time. (As for some reason the P5 is 5w30. hmmmm) Anyway I don't use synthetic and have thought about it a great deal but just can't justify the premium price for it, as I put a lot of miles on our cars and usually change the oil every 2 months or so.

It's the little aluminum washer that goes between the drain plug and the oil pan.

I change every 5000km. I use mineral oil. Until I make some real money, I can't justify the extra cost of using synthetic.
Also, Synthetic blends aren't any better than mineral oil really. I read an article in an auto mechanic trade publication and they said that blends aren't any better than straight mineral oil. This was about 5 or 6 years ago however, so there no doubt have been improvements since then. but at that time there wasn't much difference.

using blends is like the equvilant of mixing distilled water with tap water... it'll still be water full of impurities.. it won't be "less pure"

While regular motor oil does contain mineral oil, it also contains other additives. 85% of motor oil is made up of a the base fluid, while the rest are chemical additives. You couldnt use straight crude oil in your engine, unless you dont care about your car
