not to highjack the thread, but since its on the subject of the hiboost kit what exactly is the weak point of the fs motors?
i've done searches but they say differen't things is it the tranny's that suck? or is it the internals? the reason i ask is because i'm pretty much sold on the hiboost kit now but i'm wondering should the day ever come that i want to make more power than what it makes now what are the trouble spots that keep me from doing that?

like lets say (this is hypothetical of course) i wanted to make 400 WHP what on this engine stops that from happening? because mental addiction motorsports has that race built fs block so if its the internals that suck couldn't i just use that and be okay or are there other factors involved?
thanks for any advice
peace

thapro, with a forged engine you can make up to about 500hp before the actual block itself will crack under the strain. If you plan on making more than about 400hp I'd highly suggest having someone strengthen the block and do a full balanced and blue-printed assembly. Wagnr also sells a forged shortblock for about $2100 built + core

Your tranny will most likely give in the 280lb-ft range. I say this because I've not seen ANY protege with over 300lb-ft. Also, my Taurus SHO had the same tranny as the protege and when I stepped up to a 100hp shot of nitrous (pushing my torque over 300lb-ft) I kept grenading the internals.

In all honesty though....a stock fs-de makes about 100whp....if you get 200whp out of it you'll be VERY impressed....settle there or be prepared to spend a butt-load of $$$ to make it last.

thanks alot for the info yeah thats why i was just using 400hp as an example, power in the 200's is perfect for me i just wasn't clear on what all could actually be done but this helps out alot thanks!

i got a question... would more power be handled by and iron block or an aluminum block?

aluminum would be better, disapates the the heat better, and heat can kill the motor..

iron is stronger...thats why manufacturers use iron blocks and aluminum heads. It depends on what you want. Iron is heavy but stronger, aluminum is lighter and runs a LITTLE cooler...if you have an F1 style budget you could use a ceramic block like toyota is starting to do.

Different manufacturers have been experimenting with ceramic internals for some time. If I understand correctly the big holdup now is the expense. Ceramics are great for things like pistons, as they keep more heat in the combustion chamber so you can get a maximum amount of work out of the fuel mixture. For those who are motorcycle enthusiasts, you can buy ceramic wheel bearings now (supposedly lower coefficient of friction). As always, how much do you want to spend for how fast you wanna go?

thats crazy....

what if they did a ceramic, porcelin, titanium, and alluminum alloy?

this is also made up, is not real, and i do not believe it will mix properly

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAA

straight forward answer, wonder if its been done, and what its heat resistance would be, and if it was involnerable to cracking and chipping
