Hiboost Kit
 

Seriously thinking about buying the Hiboost kit, does anyone have info if the stock tranny (automatic) will handle the xtra 100hp or will I need to upgrade it as well. I want to get an idea of what the total cost is going to be for the Hiboost upgrade (new motor mounts are a given)

im not familiar with "highboost". is it like nitrous? or like an engine mod?

Hiboost is a turbo kit designed for 2002+ (2.0L) proteges.

no they also make a kit designed for the 1999-2000 1.6 litre protege, and from what i hear the auto tranny sucks with the highboost, it slips badly, and can not handle much boost at all,IMO its a dumb idea to turbo an automatic to begin with.

what year is your car, and what engine do you have?

I have a MP5, 2002, 2.0L
Had no choice is the transmission decision, car was a hand me down. I just want to safely up the performance.

I would say that if you really want to go fast you should consider trading the auto in favor of a manual. The performance is so much better with the manual.

Oh and back to the Hiboost kit. The Auto wouldn't hold up to that kinda power.

well if you want to safely up the performance then count the turbo kit out, first off the fs engine is weak as balls, and has a nice track record of blowing the engines when boosted, rods are junk. now couple that with an auto tranny, and you will for sure fuck something up.

So basically stick with intake and cat back?

plus..... lightened pulleys, cams, clutch/9lb fly...

Ummm ... as far as I know there is no clutch/flywheel with an automatic right?

i've done 3 or 4 kits on auto's as long as you don't run more than 6-7psi you should be fine

well roddimus was telling me that the hiboost turbo for my 99protege LX 1.6Ldohc(automatic) was the way to go as far as turboing is concerned. Also some else told me that because the automatic tranny shifts only at 3000rpm that it can handle alot of boost. The only thing is that i wold hav to beef up the torque converter in the tranny and i think som bushings. aslo the engine can handle the power as long i keep it maintained; cause the block is like bullet proof or some shit like that. But im studying more about turboing a 1.6L engine w/stock tranny. Let me know on wat u guys think!!!1 :bt:

im also getting msd-4 ignition, lightened fly wheel, and maybe injectors....oh ya and i cant forget the under pulley!!

a tranny cooler would be a good idea on a auto as well
