I don't think your engine is powerful enough to need a dual exhaust.

Just tellin' it like it is. About the header though, most people seem to be waiting for one where no custom drilling/fitting has to be done, or one is made by a quality company (ie NOT APC). If you get a header now, be prepared to put some work into it.

I never understood the point of splitting the exhaust on an inline engine in the first place...

Maybe he meant a 4 into 2 header or something??? They don't make any for a 1.6L if that is what was asked...

I thought it was a 4-2-1? That is the common type I thought. Those DC Sports 4-2-2's stay seperated and have the two flanges to mount 2 exhuast pipes to, or to mount a midpipe that fuses into one. They claim better torque or something in exchange for some high end breathing. Its been a while since I saw them or heard about them so I could be wrong about those.

Anyway I thought by the "pair of headers" reference that he thought A.) Protege's have "V" engines rather than inline, or B) A header to split the exhaust without a Y pipe. And if that was the case, they don't make any for any protege that I know of, let alone a 1.6L

If it fits a 2.0 FS, I think it fits the 1.8 FS as well...

There is a pic that semi-shows what I meant by the 4-into 2 into "1" they don't make the one that I remember from years ago, but imagine the downpipe of this staying seperated to allow two exhausts pipes to be mounted on. the illimination of the catalytic converters was always a problem, so I am imagining they figured people only want the dual exhuast for looks and that a Y-pipe after a single catalyst would do...
