engine mods

couple questions realy, for most of the engine mods i'v read about there all for the p5's? and on injen's webpage they say "protege p5 2.0l/mp3" so it wont fit the lx/es ? i thought there where the same engines. if not, well where can you find parts for the es/lx model. second i am thinking about buying a protege but most likely in calgary (save 7%), now i guess that would be the best way to break it in, with the first real drive about 1500km. but if all works out i would like to get some part out there and throw them in right off the hop. i/h/e . better to break in with or with out?
And just look at some of the parts offered for the protege, what part do you guy recomend getting and if in any order. and who currently has the best of each (newbie)
intake
headers
exhaust
10.1:1 pistons
i/e camshafts
flywheels
pullys

On the intake issue...the only real difference in ANY of the 2.0L cars is whether or not they have AUTOMATIC trannies or not....the companies make intakes for manual's and auto's.....otherwise.....they fit all the models....

As for the breakin period....its all in how easy you drive the car for the first 1000 miles or so....and as for mods during that period...well if you want to do NON-invasive mods such as intakes, exhaust, that sort of thing...that would be cool....I Personally would wait a bit longer before doing internal mods such as cams, pistons, that sort of thing......

oh yeah...and BTW.... Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

How long would you say, do you need to 'break in' the car? I have almost 7k now and I've already been racing her. I am ready to do exhaust, cams, & head work, just as soon as I get the $$.

your car is more than ready....pretty much after you have 1000 miles on them....they are pretty much broke in.....sure over time they losen up some more...but after 1000 miles....let it rip!

it really depends on what YOU want as an end result...and the budget you have....

as the sign in the speed shop reads :

"SPEED COST MONEY....HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO"

A JDM engine conversion would be one way to go (170hp), but personally, I prefer turbo! Lots more fun (boost, bov, etc...), plus a dramatic boost in power (200+ flywheel horsepower with T3 (tuned correctly, of course)). I think that a turbo costs more too (depending on the JDM ECU cost).

If you are more concerned with engine/transmission longevity and passing smog, then you are probably best off to stick with intake/exhaust and maybe a little computer tuning. Good luck!
