What are some mods for the GTX engine?

What other mods are available for the GTX engine? Derrick at CS suggested using a 94 protege cylinder head for better flow, and HKS cams.

Any other suggestions?

tuning at CS as we speak, already have the air to water intercooler. will pistons from a miata work?

i just want to not do more than just upgrade the turbo.

its like if you work out only your biceps it doens't help your arm as a whole. know what i mean? need to get the tricep and fore arm done too.

i'll be getting the miata cams, the 94 protege cylinder head, and a miata underdrive crank pulley.

I'm not really talking from experience, but I heard the UDP was a really bad idea on the BPT for some reason. Perhaps I was thinking of some other car, but I've heard bads things.

The pistons and head sound like a great idea, the head alone will give you a really nice bump in power... Do you have a 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust? If you can fit it, that would be good, too....

And as for the miata cams, they should definately work... They may even have some sort of re-grinds specific for turboed miatas??? That would be worth looking into.

I don't know much about the miatas, but could you use an exhaust manifold adapted to a bigger turbo from a miata kit on the BP in the protege? I realize that the engines in the miata's are mounted differently, but in theory (space not being an issue), the exhaust manifold with bigger turbo should bolt up, no?

put on 720cc injectors

(sorry long story, that's overkill. I *think* that the 330cc injectors will be fine unless you go to a bigger turbo. YOu're not running lean are you?)

why is the UDP a bad idea?

pin0yi30y, you sound like you are doing a really good job so far on the engine, especially if you get cams and gears, exaust, dp, controler, head, and intercooler. As far as pistons, i have heard that they will work, but i have also heard that they are slightly too big, so your guess is as good as mine

also when you get the new head try a p&p job on it, heck you could even go as far as getting the engine bored and adding new higher comprestion pistons. just depends on how much you want to spend.

your injectors should be ok as long as you are not runnin lean.

you could always try a little happy gas

just be careful and dont do like my buddie did with his chevelle.

i dunno about those 720cc injectors, depends on how big your new turbos gonna be. a t3/4 should put u in the 12's for sure, and for a daily driver street car that would be good enough dont ya think? go with 550cc injectors.

the stock GTX with 3 inch exhaust and front mount intercooler makes a escort lx run 13.5 q/m
(someone say they dont believe me so i can go get the timeslip from ERDT lol) The next logical upgrade is to find a VJ-23 and slap her on there. (its what the guy whos escort im talking about is doing, he works at corksport so you might know him, Chris Giles I think his name is)Sure you could build then engine more first, but you could be hitting 12s in no time just by slapping on the VJ-23.

I'd go larger than the VJ-23, too, for sure. Have to custom fab an exhaust manifold for that, though ...
